Ammo Shortage?
« on: July 28, 2009, 01:48:02 PM »
How are people doing around the country on firearm ammo?  My local Wal-Mart has no ammo and the clerk said even the warehouse for the area has none as well.  The online places are pretty much sold out of everything and back-ordered.  Can't believe this shortage is all about people hoarding ammo.  What do you guys think?

A friend who is a manager at Bass Pro told me that if you plan on doing any fall hunting, you had better be stocking up now. There is nothing in the pipeline all the way back to the manufacturers. Our Walmart has limited supplies in some calibers, and some shotgun shells.

I did notice that Midway is taking backorders on their website, they weren't doing that earlier.

It is people buying ten boxes instead of two, and certain calibers (.380 for instance) are unavailable, or sold in boxes of ten for 5-10 times the historic pricing.

I found some shells for deer hunting at Midway, and a brick of .22, but man, this shortage is really weird, and has me a little concerned.

Nothing here... I went looking for .45 ACP, .357 Mag, .38, and .30 carbine the other day. No one had ANYTHING. I found a local shop that had 1 50 round box of CCI Blazer .45 for.... $48.99 a box.

I was surprised to find the  Walmart by me  stocked up nicely on ammo, rifle, pistol and shotgun.   I have an ample supply of pistol ammo but I think I may stock up on some rifle ammo while they have it.

I am doing my part contributing to the current shortage.  I started bulking up last October-November, so I am OK.  You will do much better checking at Gerogia_arms.com  Cheaperthandirt.com  ammotogo.com  etc.  Most of my orders are from Georgia Arms.  They are delayed 5-7 weeks, typically.   If all you need is 20 - 40 rounds for a deer rifle, that's not too hard.  If you are buying 1000 rounds of .223 or 308 or 9mm or .45 ACP, that's doable.  If you are looking for .380 ACP, small cal pistol primers, small cal rifle primers or even .40 S&W, then you will have trouble.  My order for 500 rounds of 40 S&W from December is still pending.  There is absolutely no .380 available anywhere.

Well my friends,

I would suggest that you start reloading, it may already be too late if small rifle primers are out of stock.

I have been reloading for over 40 years, and have prepared for various situations many times. So I have a plentiful supply of everything from loaded rounds, primers, powder and bullets. It pays to be prepared, I purchased everything on sales, after the catastrophes had passed. But I'm still prepared for anything !

I started so that I would be able to afford Hi-Power rifle competition, first 30-06, then 7.62x51, 12 gauge shotgun, 223, 38 special/ 357 magnum, 45 acp and for some fun380 acp :-)

Reloading is relatively easy, with some patients and attention to the details make wonderfully accurate reloads. I have won many Matches with my reloads !

So when this situation passes, you will ounce again see sales on all of you favorite ammo !

Reloading, it's Fundamental !!!!

I was in Springdale Arkansas a couple of weeks ago.  A gunshop there had several thousand small rifle primers, and lots of ammo.  Here in Kansas at the Outback Park range they have about 20,000 small rifle primers in stock.  The owner just got in a "small" ammo shipment...$22,000 worth.  Order a large enough order...it will be shipped.

People are worried...and this is why: Blair Holt bill...require you to put down all firearms with the 2099 tax return form.

Shoot big bore PCP, and cast your bullets...you will never run out of air!  457, 350 gr...900 fps!

We've got the same here in Eastern NC...  .380, .45  and .22 are tough to find...  Primers have been in very short supply and getting outragously expensive...  I started buying them when i see them a while back...Been reloading for almost 40 years and I've never seen components dry up like this..  It's nuts..

A lot of what the "shortages" can be contributed to, is the purchase of firearms by folks that have never owned, nor every in thier wildest dreams, expected to own...  I've friends who never would have bought a gun, out buying...  The shows in this area have been busy..etc.. And those folks are buying up ammo too..  then you have the folks that have maybe bought a box or two a year are buying more... ETC...

I admit to buying more at a time than I would have... Been shooting more .22 than in the past..Holding the big bore stuff for other purposes, and matches....

Wife has still not figured out the renued interest in air....But I've been shooting the snot out of it here at the house in the past couple of months as the powder burning has been held off...

Now of course, I might have my tin foil hat too tight too...:)

I know a couple of people that work at wal-mart and I ask what days they will get they're shipment in on and I buy every winchester white box of 9mm,45acp I can, other than that I conserve what I have on stock at home
Mike Melick tuned Bam B26,with  Leapers 4x16x40ao scope,Gene turbo tuned TF89 with Barska 3X12X40A0 scope and More powder burners than you can shake a stick at.                  Gun control is hitting what your aiming at
