More silly Marauder questions
« on: July 28, 2009, 04:50:03 PM »
So I was all ready to order a Marauder in .117 from Pyramyd, then they ran out. I then convinced myself that I would be better off with a .22 anyway and when I got around to ordering the gun Pyramyd was out of .22's. Since then (and you have to understand I'm normally a very decisive guy) I've gone back and forth between the two calibers. I'm not buying the gun for hunting, although I'm sure there will be a few less starlings and such around once I get it, but mainly to shoot targets, out to 50 yards. The reason I decided to consider the .22 is that where I shoot there is often wind, and I'm assuming a heavy pellet will track better with a cross wind. Is this a correct assumption? It would also be nice to have a different caliber gun since I already have two .117's. The pros for .117 are... I already have a variety of .117 pellets  and .177 is more economical in the long run.

I'm also wondering if any of you have had experience, good or bad, with BSA, Airforce, or Hawke scopes. BSA makes what looks like a nice 3-12X50 that Pyramyd sells for about $90.00 that I'm considering.

Really love this form. The feedback I got to my last post was fantastic (Marauder VS Tallon ss). It made the decision to get the Marauder easy... now I just need to get the darn thing on order.

Thanks,

Don

If you will be using the rifle for target shooting and only the occasional starling or other pest then I would advise you to get the .177 version.  It's perfect for target, either casual or competition, and is more than capable of being used to hunt pests and small game if you decide to do that.  The pellet selection is also greater, as you know, for .177.

My Marauder is .22 cal and I love it, but I use mine strictly for hunting.

Pyramydair is always getting them back in stock,,,,, don't make a hasty purchase, wait until they have the caliber in stock that  you really want ....  you'll be much happier in the end....

I bought my Marauder .177 to Airgun Depot. I have boughten 7 rifles to then in 11 months until now. They have excellent customer service.

I am a field target shooter. All my rifles are .177, I was close to order the Marauder in .22, but for what... The rifle is a good performer in that caliber. If you have crosswing for that are the scope adjustments.

I received the MARAUDER 3 weeks ago.

A heavy pellet will track better (I think) but it will have a more pronounced trajectory. You will get more shots per fill with the .177 and a flatter trajectory. I like the .22 (being a hunter and pest shooter), but with your criteria I would probably opt for .177.

I am pretty sure you'd be happy with either one. The Marauder is so full ofwell-executed good features that you just can't go wrong.I mostly go for .22s but I envy the cost of .177s and they are a little more forgiving of range estimation errors. The game you're after (feathers and paper) won't mind a few less fpe.

Once again, thanks so much for the input guys. I'm going to order a Marauder in .117 in the AM. I can always get a .22 at a later date... although my wife is starting to wonder about me now since this is my 3rd air gun, all bought within a year! I'll post a picture of my guns when I get the Marauder. It will be quite the upgrade from my first purchase... a Daisy Powerline 880, that shoots BB's and pellets.
