Straigtening cross hairs -- possible?

I've got a Gamo Viper with factory stock BSA 3-9x40 scope and the cross hairs are
misaligned.  I came over here to europe with it and something must've happened during
shipping.

I've already loosened the mounts and rotated the body of the scope as far as it will
go -- it bottom out on one side of the rail and still my crosshairs are maybe 15 degrees
out of plumb.

Seeing as my only option here is to throw it in the trash and get a new one, is there any
hope of opening this thing up and straightening it out?

I've never opened anything like this before but i'm guessing i'd find some kind of glass
plug with cross hairs etched on it.. maybe I can rotate it a bit?

I have never pulled apart a scope but my feeling is that I do not think its possible to fix properly. Maybe  BSA  scopes in the UK would repair it for minimal cost and mail?  If not nothing to lose by try to dismantle it. I think some scopes are nitrogen or some type of gas fill, so all the threads may be glued? If you do happen to get into it ...I would suggest using some type of anti vibe adhesive, possible  Loctite product or epoxy to stand up to recoil. Good luck , Tony.

Well here's a brain-bender -- I don't really use the cross hairs for range finding.. and rarely do I shoot so close or so far that I need to hold over / under.
If this is the case, can I still depend on the absolute dead center of the crosshairs to be on target?
Obviously my up/down and left/right adjustments would be relative (I think).

If I'd thought of this while holding my gun I guess I could've just tried it.

Yeh man, You dont want to try and open up that scope as they  are filled with nitrogen gas. My Gamo scope done same thing, I just got a new scope but Gamo does offer a warranty on their optic's,You could probably get it fixed for S&H charge. Question  is do ya really want another Gamo scope?AKJC1977

It is most likely doable. I'd say that the crosshairs are mounted on a ring that is threaded into the scope body (seen few scopes where it was done that way). Rotating it back into correct position should be quite easy but the problem is that it may rotate back unless you get something like locktite into those threads. Be careful though, it's really easy to break those crosshairs. It seems those BSA scopes are made in china and I'm a bit doubtful whether they are filled with nitrogen.
