Gamo spring advice
« on: July 30, 2009, 04:14:34 PM »
I am in the middle of my first major tune and decided to go over board on a gamo silver shadow supreme, Everything was going great actually having some fun up until the spring! Unfortunately I  have come to a major halt. I have done a lot of work and taken my time..breech lock , barrel tune , GRT 111 trigger, telsa seal is in and perfect fit.  I spent ages on the honed compression chamber top hat de burring polishing etc ... Now I am totally frustrated because the maccari spring E3650 looks worse than the original bendy spring that I removed  see pictures!!  I read where I should not be concerned about springs different lengths because this is normal?, same number of coils is more important which this spring is,  it is just longerabout 3"??
I am so disappointed , I put everything in a box for now, I feel if it doesn't look right then its not:(
I need some advise on the my spring issue and really hoping someone can shed some light on this one? maybe its the wrong spring? All comments are welcome, Tony.

If you did not have the spring "set" it will be longer. Once you seal it up and cock it, it will set to the working length.

I think you've got the correct spring. It should be longer than the factory spring,...in its "un-set" state. Just be careful when you compress it all back together!!! The spring will usually bulge a bit being new and from having uneven pressure build up when first installed, or compressed. And when you cock it and fire the rifle, the spring will set and everything should be fine. Once installed, cocked, and fired a few times,... the internals will be free to move around a bit and correct itself. After I assemble my rifle actions back together, I'll half cock them a few times to let the parts orient themselves in place. Hope to see this rifle put back together soon. Post some pix when you're finished with it!!!! You'll be very proud of it I'm sure. tjk

Tony, it'll "look right" once the sping has been set.  I've read a couple posts by Gene where he's mentioned he's stepped out for a smoke after installing a sping and giving it time to set.  Go get the parts out of the box and finish your rifle... post some pics when you're done.

Ditto what everyone else said.  I used the E3650 in my Big Cat which is the same powerplant.  Yes it is unset and longer.  You will probably noitce a slightly lowe velocity than before but also way smoother.  Did you use the Apex seal?

Do you recommend the Apex or Tesla piston seals?  Do you use the Tesla when your tube is a bit oversized or are they interchangeable?
