I know I'm gonna probably get some ribbing for this but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if they are in the Dove family then they are no doubt edible, and probably just as tasty as mourning doves :)

You may have a veritable feast awaiting you in that tree of yours :)

wrap em in bacon, season, broil until golden brown,,,,, man,,,,, I'm hungry already.................

Some doves (migratory) are protected by federal law.  You might want to check before you shoot them.  I have a friend in CLeveland, MS who has a propane cannon on a timer to keep the birds out of his fig trees.  Loud but very effective.

Dano,

Did you determine what the bird actually is?  It reminds me of the Eurasian collared-doves, but I can't tell for sure.  We "accidentally" shot a couple (collared-doves) on a recent dove hunt in S. Texas.  They were the first I had seen and I didn't pay to much attention to them, but I remember that they were a bit larger than the Morning doves.  The rancher, where we were hunting, hates them with a passion.  He claims they nest in his trees and are messy.  He encouraged us to shoot all we could. They are editable.

Anybody know for sure what the bird is?

Jim

Dano, If the black band on the neck is boarded by white on top and the bottom then you have the E. C. Dove. Blast away and fill the ice box up. EC Dove are slightly larger than White-winged Dove and are just as tasty.

EC doves are becoming a real problem in Texas.

Mighty warm today in S Texas.

hehe, I still haven't fired a shot.  The weather is changing, warming up the last day or two, and I saw a couple in my yard yesterday...but none in the tree.  You don't think they can read minds do you?  I was pretty excited, warm weather, my new CO2 gun shooting one holers, I coulda just plucked them like whiskers out of the tree...but they have all but vanished.  I'll look again tomorrow.  I'm really trying to avoid any shots that don't need to be taken.  Not for the birds, for the neighbors that haven't complained about my hobby yet....don't want someone to see me killing and decide that they don't like the noise that comes out of my backyard.  We shall see....  Still parking on the street though.
