George, I recently went the 2240 route, simply because I have 4 .177 pistols now and wanted to get into a .22 that I can mod.   The Crosman Custom Shop is the fast way to go for general mods, Base unit 2300 KT, 10.1 Cros. barrel, Muzzle Brake/Front sight, Breach & Bolt long steel, silver trigger shoe and plastic grips for$ 99.65 before shipping etc.

A set of Keith's combat grips and Grant's roller trigger should round out a good shooting pistol

Its hard to say which is best way to go, depends on personal desire really...I  went with the 2300s because I wanted the walther lothar barrel it comes in .177 . I also liked the idea of adjusting the power level with the "S" model:) also I had a .22 already.  I think the  2240 is a great way to go  if .22 is your desire and crossman custom shop order allows you to get it just like you want:) Tony.
