I ordered this scope
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:10:18 AM »
Which I thought was a good deal. I'll let you know what I think when it arrives. According to the BSA website it focuses down to 10 yards. Don't know if it's springer rated or how it  might hold up on one.

NATHAN THANKS FOR POSTING THE CLEARANCE... I DO NOT NEED THE SCOPE, RIGHT NOW, BUT AS AN SPARE SCOPE IT WORKS.
THE SCOPE WITH SHIPPING TO PUERTO RICO IS JUST $48 DOLLARS  FOR A 2.5-10X40 BSA SCOPE, THAT IS VERY ECONOMICAL.... I ORDERED ONE ALREADY. COOL. THANKS AGAIN.

Don't know and I can't find anywhere on their website that says it is or isn't. I did send them a question through their website asking that very thing.  I'll let you know what their "official" response is.

THE PANTER SCOPES ARE NOT RATED FOR AIRGUNS. BSA HAVE 3 OTHER SCOPES DESIGNED FOR AIRGUNS. CHECK HERE: http://www.bsaoptics.com/advisor.aspx.

Thanks.  I just ordered one myself after seeing your post.  At the price your really can't go too far wrong.

Hint: Add coupon code "sh470" to your order and you'll get an extra $5 off of shipping charges.

BSA's answer
« Reply #6 on: August 13, 2009, 06:41:18 AM »
I asked them if it would handle the recoil of a spring piston air rifle.
They responded by asking me "what caliber is it?"
I said "more than likely I will mount it on a .22 caliber spring piston air rifle"
Their answer ....  "Yes, this model will work just fine".

So, there you have it right from the horses mouth as they say. Well I'll keep the box and paper and fill out and mail off the warranty card right away. Just in case it fails and I need to have some warranty work done
Maybe if the scope is nice and does hold up I can pick up another one.

Keep us posted on how well it handles on springers.

All's I own are .177 caliber airguns.  Does it really make a different in the recoil dynamics if the gun ia a .177 or a .22?  If so, which has the more problematic recoil?

I bought this scope to use on a .22LR so I'm not worried about springer recoil for my intended use - but I'd still like to know the answer anyway.

I wondered the same thing when they asked me "what caliber is it?" That wouldn't matter as all spring piston airguns share, regardless of caliber, the same recoil characteristics. Now some may be harsher or have more recoil, but even a low powered spring gun can rattle a scope loose. I guess time will tell.

Well the scope arrived today and from my initial assessment I can say I really like it. The glass looks really clear even to the edges and it does focus down to 10 yards. The scope was wel packaged and it needed to be. It looked like the UPS truck ran over the box Sheeesh!.
I'll mount on some thing soon and see how it does.

Glad yours was so well packed!  I haven't seen a box that damaged on the outside for a long time.  What kind of underdeveloped monkeys do they have at UPS handling these things?!  Mine should arrive tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll get a different driver-monkey that doesn't run over mine on the way out here.  Glad yours made it through the ordeal unscathed!

My scope arrived yesterday. Looks super nice for the price. The lens are very clear. I will mount it in a Sumatra 500 cc .22 that I next month.

The scope it is not designed for air rifles (Springers)  but can be used with air rifles that do not have heavy kick. An example do not use it with RWS 48, I KNOW this rifle will brake the scope.

Mine arrived today.  No external package damage.  But I would not say the insides were packed well.  The scope box was just sitting there inside the bigger outer box.  With non-functional padding (there was one sheet of tissue thrown in there).  Not a good sign.

Once I opened he outer box I immediately noticed that the original seal on the inner scope box was broken, and the sides taped in place.  Not a good sign.  Opened the scope box and saw that the plastic lens cover was broken (looked like a starred windsieild on a car).  Not a good sign.  Pulled the scope itself out and it looked fine.  A fingerprint was on the rear objective.  Not a good sign.

Although the scope itself appeared fine, with the other problems I saw I immediately called SportsmansGuide and reported the issues.  They quickly and very nicely offered a full refund or to ship a new one and send me a prepaid shipping label to return the old one.  I took them up on the replacement offer.  Simply because I do not know, nor do I trust, the history behind the one I got.

However, from what I can tell, this appears to be a dynamite scope for only $29!  I'm looking forward to my replacement.

Mine arrived today in perfect and brand new condition.  The scope looks great and glass is clear.  The eye relief is better than my Leapers 3-9x40.  Definitely a good value for the price.
