Boomer here's your pics
« on: August 13, 2009, 12:58:08 PM »
Boomer,

Thanks for reading the post.  Here's the pictures...

Pic 1 - This is a slider with check valve you can buy on ebay for about $25 shipped.  The tolerances on the one I got are not good and I subsequently go through a lot of o-rings.  Note it has ASA valve to attach to a paintball bottle and a female foster quick connect to connect to the male that you will install on your Archer's bulk fill adapter.  I use this one for longer shooting sessions.  I put the bottle in a fanny pack and I'm ready to go.

Pic 2 - This is a picture of a higher quality bulkfill station.  I removed the CO2 tank valve and installed an ASA valve (from ebay) and removed the hose so I could install a short 1/8 nipple from Home Depot.  The shorter nipple means you lose less CO2 each time you charge and then disconnect from the rifle.

Pic 3 - This is a picture of a higher quality check valve.  It still blows o-rings but not as often.  Note the brass foster quick connect.  Brass is okay for CO2 pressures (<1000 psi) but not HPA (around 2000-3000 psi).

Pic 4 - is my other higher end check valve with stainless foster fittings good for HPA.

Good luck.

Thanks Andy for answering all my questions.
I think I'll be getting a QB78 real soon.

Contact Mike Melick.  He works magic on the QBs.  Or if you are handy get one and do it yourself.  All the information is readily available.  It isn't that hard to improve them.  Standard issue in .177 shoots 640ish.  Mike would tune it up to mid to high 700s.  You'll use more gas though and only get about 50 decent shots per two cartridges.  More on a stock rifle.

I've been leaning more towards .22 cal. always thought they shot better than .177.
I'll probably get a deluxe from Archer as a started and work on it myself.  That's half
the fun is tuning one up.

Cool.  Stephen Archer is also a stand up guy and you can't go wrong buying from him either.  Yes his website is often down for days at a time but he's still there.  He'll ship quickly and you won't get any junk.  He is often on these boards and freely shares his knowledge.

My MM tuned .22 shoots a whopping 740 fps!  And accurate as possible.

I see they're now offering the QB79 in .22.  Just what I've been waiting for.
Is your .22  getting 740fps on Co2?  If so that's great.  What kind of group
sizes are you able to get?

Well my .22 78 was done by Mike Melick.  Trigger is much better than on my others but I don't know if that is because of it being a "deluxe" or Mike.  I'm thinking both but more because of MM.  I really haven't done official measurements but it is more accurate than any of my .22s with the exception of maybe my Career which might be attributable to the better scope on the Career.  Better than my b25, b26, or 2250b and the 2250b was supposed to be be a MM tuned rifle as well.

Here's another question for you if I were to get a QB78 and bought a gas block for a QB79 would it mount into the gas tube of the QB78
or would you have to buy other parts?  Cannot find a parts diagram for the QB79 to see how the gas block attaches to the tube.

I'm thinking if I bought a QB78 and then put the QB79 gas block on it that would allow the tank to hang down lower thus
eliminating the problem of the tank clearance with the barrel.

I don't think this would work.  I've seen extender tubes for 78s but not sure how well the o-rings connecting the main gas tube and the extension hold up.  Mac1 might have these.

I don't see how it would be advantageous to cluge up a 78.  Without support for the gas block, I'm sure you'd have problems with leaks.  A 9 oz tank on a 79 will last 400 or more shots.  Not sure what you buy by rigging a 78 up like that.  Besides I think a new gas block runs $30ish.  The rifle itself is only $90.

But why get a QB78 just to make it like a QB79 and 79 is available. Archers's got 79 with 78 trim (bolt & trigger group). If you use a 79 block to a 78 you will have to cut the gas be and re-inlet the stock to accommodate it and clearance will be same as 78. I have a QB78d and modded it with MM assistance and now shoots low 7's with 14.3 CPHP/30 power shots bulked. 8)

Hey Bentong, was it you that turned me on to my cool green pb remote line?  I've been using for those extended shoots because my MM .22 is a gas hog.  Really like it and loved the price.  But mine eats o-rings.    I upgraded the slider to the stainless one shown above.  More durable but I still blow out o-rings after a while.  Good thing I have two because I just rebuild and have as a spare.  Do you have that problem?  Or am I doing something wrong?

I'm still on my same O-ring for the slide since the small valve o-ring blew. The slide takes regular PB ring. I deburred & polished the slide tube and used light o-ring plumbers silicone. I ordered another remote because the first is now a stubby that's used for refilling and the other for tethered shooting. When I disconnect I slowly slide the slider and bleed off gas so O ring don't blow..reason my spare O rings' gathering dust ;d)

My thoughts on this were the longer forend would work better for me
and also the pictures I saw of the gas block "looked" like it might drop
the tank down a little lower thus helping with the clearance problems with
the barrel and certain PB tanks.

Again thanks Andy and Bentong for your help and patience on answering
my questions.  I'm sure I'll have more.

bentong,

i did the same exact thing.  deburred and polished the whole thing.  lightly lubed using plumbers grease (silicone).  except i slide quick thinking the oring has less time hanging over the vent hole.  seems that the ring gets blown out aroung the hole.  i'll try the slow methed next time.

When I did the silicone it made it slick and at first I doubted it's going to hold but when I charge it it had a resistance and held.
