The guy who passes with the most allen keys wins
« on: August 15, 2009, 06:00:56 AM »
Since I started with air rifles my allen key collection has multiplied like rabbits. I appreciate the fact that most accessories come with allen keys specific to that item but with no mention of what size it is so the collection grows. I finally tagged them sort of so I sort of know to what each allen key belongs and into a plastic empty vitamin jar they go. As I clean up around the houses I seem to find more and more of the old ones in sets and singles. I figure in the airgun community the guy who dies with the most allen wrenches wins--what I don't know but that person has to be a winner or a complusive collector. In spite of having 50 to 100 of these, why is it that you can seemingly never find the right one either? What useful purpose can be found for extra allen wrenches? And why does it seem to me that if you need a specific size you have to buy a set--one metric and one British units. I am fairly certain that there exists a third set of too sizes somewhere between metric and British. I think I may have finally snapped this morning. After this rant I will probably find out there is an "allen wrench abuse" hotline.

THAT was hilarious, John!  You couldn't have put it better.

Over the course of my life I too have come to be in possession of a large quantity of allen wrenches.  I have a large freezer bag that I've always kept my electric guitar hex keys and tools in...   then there's the mountainbike tool cache...  then there's the back-up tool pack I keep in the van...  the airgun tool box...  there are any number of them scattered throughout my drawers...  we can't forget my little Chinese tool kit which I might add has two sets(Brit & Metric)...  my fishing tackle box has a few in the event I need to work on my reels...

The list goes on!

Good point and topic, John!

John that was funny and I can never find my small allen wrench but Timmy always comes through for papa bear.. Thanks Timmy.

The allen set you are looking for is the new Chinese allen set. that means that the Chinese allen heads guns rarely goes well with any other type or made allen wrench set...:) They never fit well..:)

Wind chimes now there is an idea. If I could weld or had a welder I could make an allen wrench pig sculpture and go to the state fair with it.  I did find another set this afternoon that I could not locate for quite a while--blue holder not sure if it is metric but I think one and only one of the set  fits one spot on the handwheel on my lathe.
