HUNTER 440 stock mod questions???
« on: August 16, 2009, 08:01:31 AM »
I too am dying to get a wood stock on my Gamo,Viper. I am aware of the endcap issue and I can fab something I'm sure but My problem is the Gamo Viper's trigger gaurd is incorporated in with the synthetic factory stock. The wood stocks have the metal gaurd (I assume metal) that screws on. How can I get one of those? And I have never seen anyone swap stocks on a Viper. I hope that there is not more issue's. If anyone has a trigger gaurd that would fit a Hunter 440 stock to sell please PM me soon as possible. I have been scared of this mod since day one, cause Gamo just dont offer many parts on Gamo USA. Is there somewhere else to get parts for Gamo rifles? AKJC1977

I just sent you a PM with some information on the stock. I did mine on a Whisper and it worked very well, I'm not sure what the Viper action is built like by comparison......

Yeah, Me either. I have been told the reciever is the same, but ya know there could be some little issues. I am very crafty and good at meticulous jobs so I can do it,I will one way or other cause I have ordered a stock, trigger guards and the endcap. I know a guy that is supposed to good at inletting (carving the diamond pattern) I am wanting to get him to work the forearm section,I know it already has the inletting on the back of the stock. I really love the look of the Hunter extreme stock.AKJC1977

Hey friend, Ya cannot order the endcap from any site. You have to call in the order. It is just a plastic cap,and cheap. I may end up making one outta a copper cap as co airgunner did or alluminum for a nicer apearance. As CDT posted, the spring block pin cannot no how no way come out on it's own,but Yeah aesthetics are ugly without a cap of somekind. However the stocks, trigger guards (which you will also need) can be ordered at Gamo USA.com. Gene told me that the linkage roller also needs changed to complete this mod properly.I dont know that Gamo sells them by phone, but Gene said he could make me one on his lathe. I am gonna get my 440 stock customized before installing, cause this is naturally gonna be a very common mod among Synthetic Gamo owner's. Oh! almost forgot, the endcap item# is 15050,but they will know what your talking bout if ya forget #.AKJC1977

Why does the roller need to be changed? Is it to big around or too long?

I am assuming it is too wide, not diameter but width. According to all who have done mod, they said you have to remove the washer from behind the syn model's roller. I will post for sure answer's soon as I get my stock and part's. So I can tell ya exactly what the difference in measurement's are. I'm assuming pro's like Gene have measured the roller's with dial caliper's to the ten thousandth of a inch. That is why some people say there is no difference, cause the diff is so minor. I just take Gene's word on it,if He say's I need a roller to do it correctly,I paid the $5.00 while I had them on the phone. I did not want to get the stock and be held up by such insignificance.
