Whisper Progress
« on: August 18, 2009, 02:47:56 PM »
Finally had time to spend another hour with her. The Whisper gal is starting to settle down (read I am learning how to handle her!)
During the process today, she is showing a definite preference for certain pellets and a definite dislike for certain others.  Since I was using the same bag rest and the "back of the hand" artillery hold, and was making an effort to do every shot exactly the same, the pellet prefereces became obvious. Distance was 23 yards.

Conclusions so far:
Hates Gamo Hunters 7.56 gr.@ 1+ to 1 1/2 inch groups/ Hates Daisy Prec. Max @ about the same/
Dislikes Crosman Prem. Competiton Wadcutters@ about 1 inch + groups/
Likes Gamo Match Diablo 7.71 gr.@3/4 inch+ groups average with a few dime size now and then--
LOVES RWS Hobby 7.0gr.@ dime size and a few with one ragged hole!

This is a work in progress.  I am NOT happy with the scope, and another is on the way. I tightened scope mount screwsand loctited them after the last session couple days ago, but there seems to be a slight bit of shifting as more shots are made.

More to come!

Glad you are having fun with your Whisper. Mine also likes RWS better most other pellets I have tried. I like the 8.3 superdomes and will try these for hunting tree rats.
My Rem. 1200 seems to like them as well. Ordered the wood stock yesterday for my Whisper. I just like wood!! The GRT triggers have just been great and makes shooting these things a pleasure. Have been using Bushnell scopes and so far I am pleased with the results. Put a 4x12 on the Gamo and  3x9 on the Rem. Happy shooting Fuller

I guess ALL airguns are different.   My Whisper likes:
Crosman Hunt (Dome (cheapy ones)), Gamo Match...they both had 7mm c.t.c groups at 8 meters (That's how long my basement is....).

Crosman Wadcutter (cheapy ones), Crosman Ultra Magnum came in 2nd with 8mm c.t.c     H&N Diabolo Baracudas had 8mm c.t.c also but had 2 flyers putting them in the 10mm group.

Crosman Premier Hollow Pt. had 10mm c.t.c

RWS SuperDome had 12mm c.t.c      Gamo Tomahawk had 7mm c.t.c but a bunch of flyers landing them in the 12mm group.  The flyers are due to the inconsistant skirt size....

Crosman SuperPoint (Which none of my airguns like) ended up with 13mm c.t.c

Crosman Copperhead Hyper Velocity (dome) had a 8mm c.t.c but had flyers so ended up with 14mm c.t.c

Daisy Presision Max Wadcutter were just bad.....  18mm c.t.c

All were 10 shot groups at 8 meter distance.....shot with left elbow on back of chair.  Hope this helps you narrow down your search for the perfect pellet.  On a side note......over time your airgun(s) will like a different diet of pellets.  My Whisper shot the Gamo Match with a c.t.c of 11mm in 26/May/08  and shot a c.t.c of 7mm in 09/Feb/09.

Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

Good pellet report. You have tried a lot more pellets than I have and I'm glad to have the heads up on some of these. I can get about 12 yards inside my house and 20 yards outside.

I've run a number of different pellets thru my whisper. The most accurate were the Gamo Match pellets and the JSB Diabolo Exact Heavy pellets.

Most of my air rifles like the Gamo Match....they're in the top four position. Unfortunately all the shops around my area don't carry the 500 count tins anymore......a few carry the 250 ct. tins. Even Cabela and Bass Pro in Canada don't carry the 500 ct. tins if I ordered from them. The 500 ct. tins are about $4.70 and the 250 ones are about the same....maybe a bit more expensive. Maybe they're of a better quality...I don't know.

I haven't tried the JSB's....or too many of the more expensive pellets. If I find a cheapy one that the rifle likes....I just stick with that one.

Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

sonny i use to hold her gently and wadcutters was her best but the rws super dome is a delight .the pellets i sent u was for a start and at 20 yards they did there job but then again i had a better scope on her but the scope i sent u with rthe one piece works at short distances is that everone has a different hold and u get use to it after a while but it takes work .that whisper is turbo tuned and triggered and had about 300 to 350 pellets in her so u might be settling it now.its a great rifle..

Hey Jorge,

With your shots and what i have added I believe her to be about 500 plus now, so should be getting there. Hope to get a new scope on her soon.  PM sent.
