Hey, Clark, congratulations! I've never heard of an 850, though, maybe it's actually an 890 :-)? If so, it's the same power plant as the Shadow/Hunter series and the CFX. As someone already said, deal with the trigger right away, either Bob's trigger or Rich's insert. Words of wisdom? Shoot it a LOT! And stick to mid-weight pellets, around 8.5 gr. There's a variety of pellets these guns like, but Superdomes, JSB Exacts, and Crosman Premiers seem to be the most mentioned "best" pellet. For paper punching at 20 yards or less, I like JSB Match Diabolo S100's in my CFX. If you intend to hunt, you've gotta try some JSB Predator's. If it turns out youir gun likes Superdomes, it'll probably also like Predators.
Don't expect 1 hole accuracy or clockwork consistency out of the box. Clean the barrel right away, just a patch or two with Goo Gone, followed by several dry patches. NO metal brushes, and NO firearms type cleaners or solvents. Make sure all screws are tight, then shoot, shoot, shoot! For break in, use whatever is readily available locally for cheap, and run at least 1000 through before getting serious about looking for the best pellet in your gun. If this is your first air gun, order a sampler from Straight Shooters. Check out their site for details. And just remember, the order button is always available, and we're all here to help support you in your slide into addiction :-)! Have fun, and keep us posted.
