Watch what you guys put online
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:02:40 PM »
Just giving you guys a heads up to watch what you guyspost up online... Just not on GTA, but anywere... It's a hell of a lot easier to tracksomeone down then you think.... My son is a big person in hunting on YouTube and someone somehow got his full name and his address and now they are going around commenting on everyones channel his name and address.. So i'm guessing that he p*ssed someone off and they somehow got this stuff. It's quite easy to get someones address nowdays... All you need to do is look in the right spots...... Go to whitepages.com and try punch in yourowninfo... it's crazy to think that this stuff is out there for the public to see... There are even sites out there that give you how much a particular house is worth, what the average income is, phone #, how much Sq. feet the house is, when it was built....nothing is private now days

Cody, ( if that is your real name ) :emoticon:  You are very correct.  There are people out there that monitor various sites for thoughts and material that they do not approve of.  They  will sign up and pose as members (  if they need to ) just to get close to legitimate members.  They encourage others to say or do things that under normal circumstances they would not do.  They then use information against you, your family and your friends.  They have  agendas to advance and they will do it by any means necessary. They are the  worst sort of Moles.

The so-called "Social Web Sites"   offer alot more info for abuse.  I have seen some of my friends postings on these sites and I am surrised by the depth of personal information that they freely post.   Even photos of themselves and family.  Where they work, where they live, etc.    Information that if you walked up to them on the street and asked them they would not give.  But they post it without a thought.

GTA members, this is a heads- up warning from 1shotwander.  Pay attention to it. Take Heed.

Gentleman of Fortune.

Couldn't agree more Bogey, - about how much personal info folks put up on-line, ... totally nuts!! Where I'm working now, an ex-supervisor had an account on one of those sites, have no idea which one. One day, he's looking around, making sure to one else is near, and called me over. Says "take a look at this", - bingo, a female co-worked had an account there also, - and put up that she's a lesbian, nice picture and all . She has a three year old son, - but that was the result of some heavy partying, - unbelievable stuff to post.

There was just a story about IRS busting a sail rigger here in CA, who bragged in a forum that he had closed his business, and opened under another name down the block. Investigators read the forum (Gateway to Sail Rigging?) and collected 10 grand (which sounds kind of light).

A while back, I put my phone number in White Pages for a reverse look up.  It gave my name and street address.  I immediately took down the flyer I had posted at the local gunshop advertising a few rifles for sale and started using my work phone number. Not so bad with cell phones now.  Don't think you can look those up.  Anyhow, using your home phone is like putting a big neon arrow on top your house reading "Guns Stored Here!!"

Jorge, you need to call the IRS.  Did they send you a letter with a case number on it?  That's too long for a refund.  Next time, use the direct deposit option, too.  Good luck.

Yup, nothing is private anymore people.... Sad thing is that my son never gave out his last name.. Just the first name... So someone had to know what they were doing... You don't need much anymore to get someone's address..And there are plenty of sites that you can crosscheck on.... I've tried this is my son's girlfriend which lives in Montana (well she's not his girlfriend, just a really really close friend) I put in her fathers name in a couple of sites and i was able to find were he had lived in the past, when they built their new house.. and just about anything thing that i wanted to know about the house inside and out.... My son never showed me pictures of her house before and i was even able to find those online... NUTS!!! ... And since my son is dealing with extremist's you almost have to be afraid to open packages or envolopes because of Anthraxes...As these people have already firebombed hunters houses before (hence why the UK considers this group [ ALF if i'm not mistaken] a terrorist group) but lifegoeson i guess

RedFeather-- All you gota do is pay a little fee (around $5- 15) and you can find out people's cell #.. Same goes for background checks and e-mail addresses..... This really opened my eyes on how little it takes to find stuff out about someone..

Yup you can find just about anything on the net..I recently had a gent rip me off of my Daughters birthday present on Ebay..Got his name off of one email and a town/state off another, lil googling had me his addy and phone..Gave him a call and calmly explained that I was my daughter present and that I intended to get said present or a full refund by any mean necessary..He promised this, that and then some like most do but what really changed the tone in his voice was the last thing he asked me..He asked how Id gotten his Name and #, I explained it to him and also commented on the truck and tennis court in his yard..That really tightened him up and you could hear it...I had my Present three days later.. :emoticon:
