storm xt - walther talon
« on: August 30, 2009, 01:38:14 AM »
I dint want to rag out my walther talon shooting it too much. I just got it in july and I feel like i could have allready went through half its life allready with all the pellets I shoot. So last night, payday, I went out and got a storm xt to help with the burdon I put on the walther talon .22. Wow, the storm was dead accurate at 10 yards right out of the box. i actually shot over 50 pellets into a half inch area and that is with the scope that came with the storm xt that was so blurry that i had to draw a dark circle 1" big as a target and just aim at the center of the blurr. Maybe I am just spoiled with the bushnell sportsman 4x12x40 i have on my walther talon.
Today I moved my target out to 15 yards to re-sight the scope there and I seem to have a lot of fliers now. I guess I will have to figure that out.
The differance between the walther and the sorm is night and day. The storm seems to be very fast shooting but it has nothing on the walther talon .22. The storm is easier to shoot cause it is light and my girlfriend can even hit anything with it but when I went back to the talon, it made the storm feel like a toy. Wow, there shure is a big differance. i even had a hard time picking up the little .177 pellets for the storm. They are hard to see. the hole that each makes in a piece of 24 gauge steel is a big differance also. (by the way, my girlfriend can not even cock the talon).
I like the storm and it would be great as a gun to wear out target practicing instead of my talon but for real hunting, the storm would not hold a candle to the walther talon .22 in a million years.

The storm is a real easy shooter though. great for target practice and plinking for anyone. I just wish the scope wasn't worthless.

For foot/lbs of energy,...I doubt you'll ever ever surpass the Talon,...even with a heavy pellet shooting fast,..if you can get it to shoot fast with a heavy pel. But the good news is that the Storm can and will evolve into a great and accurate shooter. Tunes do alot for them,...so if you invest a little time and money into it,....you'll understand why the Quest varients have such a positive following amoungst the AG community!!! The GRT-III trigger is a must though!!! It'll improve the rifles performance 10 fold,...even on an un-tuned Storm. I was eye-balling a Storm at Wally-World yesturday while renewing my hunting/fishing liscence. Unfortunately I've got too many springers as it is, and need to thin down the arsenal!!!!! LOL's, Congrads on the Storm. She's a sweet looking weapon with good lines and style!!!! tjk

Hey Joe,  I have a Crosman Storm and I am as ' Happy as a dead pig in the sunshine'  with it.     And  If I ever would need any,  parts are available and reasonalbly priced from Crosman.
It is accurate and hits hard.  My plan is to one day soon purchase the Crosman 800 in .22 cal.

What those fellows above said.  The Walter Talon is more powerful and most likely more accurate than the Storm XT.  But most Crosmans are accurate out-of-the-box up to 15 -20 meters (If you're lucky).  My Storm is one of my favourite springers due to it's light weight.....but heavy enough to be very steady shooting off-hand and easy to break the barrel....and it came with a pretty clear CenterPoint 3X9-32mm scope (Scope died after over 2800 shots).  For 10 meter distances....most Crosmans and Gamos are pretty accurate with most pellet types......to reach out further, you'll need to experiment and test out other pellets.

FYI, you can adjust the focus on the scope that comes with the Storm. I'm not talking about the focus ring at the rear of the scope - that one adjusts the focus on the crosshairs. On the front of the scope, there is a ring that comes off, exposing a threaded tube that holds the objective lens. Turning it in or out changes the focus for either close-in targets or more distant targets. The scope has a very narrow depth-of field - if your target at 15 yards is in focus, a target at 50 yards my be kinda fuzzy, as well as a close-in target at say maybe 10 yards.

This is something I discovered by accident. I had never had a scope before that wasn't in sharp focus at infinity, and I thought "man, there's got to be a way to adjust this". I started messing with the front ring, and sure enough - there's an adjustment underneath!  8)

I have the storm xt and like fxdrider says you can adjust the front objective lens, thats more for paralax than focus though. Although it did help a little. The centerpoint scope is not as clear as the one that came on my beeman, but i feel like it is more accurate. As for the storms accuracy I can stack pellets at 15 yards with open sights, free shooting. The only thing it really needs is the GRTIII trigger from Bob" CharlieDaTuna" to make it a really good shooter for the money.

I can vouch for that. I just installed a GRTIII trigger on my Storm XT yesterday and WOW! What a difference! A nice crisp, clean trigger break - rather than the mile-long creep I had with the stock trigger. I didn't have time yesterday do sit down and do an exhaustive accuracy test - just some brief plinking. Had two through the same hole with a 3rd spreading the group out to 3/8" @ 15 yds. The gun was capable of that kind of accuracy before I installed the GRTIII, it just required much less effort with the new trigger. This just feels like a fine trigger should. I don't know if everyone has the same results with the GRTIII, but I'm very happy with mine.
