My personal adventure with the B-28!!!
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:46:20 AM »

The .177 cal B-28 that is. When I first recieved this rifle from Mike,...it was in great shape,...stock, action,...everything. But like most all other springers,..it was in dire need of a break in period. I'd guesstimate she's had around 1500 rounds through her by this weekend. I've never been a big fan of rough housing a rifle,...always a slow and gentle cocking method was used. Yet for some reason,...I would always hear this "popping" sound at the four o'clock area of the cocking swing,...thensear lock up at the five o'clock down swing. This really grated onmy nerves!! "What the heck is causing this"?!?! I'd say to myself. So I set the rifle down,...and thought about it for awhile. Now this gun is pure factory stock,...save thetune Mike performed,..and the custom delrin Top-Hat he added. But with the original spring andpiston seal,...I thought I was hitting the 1060 to 80 fps mark. Maybe I was thus far. But while reflecting in the passed with the B-28A .22, I realized something,...I had the same popping sound coming fromit as well. So what did I do to eliminate this irking noise,....I shot the living crap out of it for a session or two. Here's how it works,...I got really agravated with the .22 and started cocking it real hard. I mean fast and deliberate. Only letting off the second I heard the sear lock into the piston. SoLast night I decided to try the same proceedure with the .177. I racked that barrel down as fast and as hard as I could until the sear engaged,...and let of the pressure onceI heardit "click". For a while the"pop" would still be there,...but not nearly as audible. I'd trya few slow cocks as well and it seemed to be less,....still there but alot less noticable. After a while,...It would go away all together,...then come back with another slow cock or two. So I continued with the 'heavy handed' treatment,...and noticed that the pop sound had moved to the two o'clock position in the cockingcycle?!?!?! Hmmmmmm. Again I continued with the savage and domineering treatment to the rifle,...and before I knew it,...the pop was completely gone!!!! Yepppeeeee!!!! Today, I took her out and with a slowdeliberate cocking method,....there's no "pop" sound,...AT ALL!!!!! I think I've figured these rifles out,...they need a little rough handling and slight mis-treatment to really come into their own. Now here's the pay dirt!!!! She cocks about the same Smoothness wise,...but even better,...not near as much spring buzz as before,...and alot faster!!!! I think she fixed herself!!! Somehow I think this rifle and me will have a very long and prosperous future "a field"!!!!!! Now I gotta slow this mare down with some'man pellets'!!!! Latest Chroney results with8.8 Beeman Cro-Mags,...a solid 1250's range!!!!! Not too bad huh?!?!?,...just too SS for the neighborhood!!! HeHeHeHe A special thanks to Daved, Tommy, and Mike!!!! Thomas

PS Mike wasn't BS'ing when he stated that this rifle will develope!!!!!!Man has she "developed"!!!!!!! tjk

She likes it rough. I'm thinking about getting a B28, myself.

I'm looking at a 28 myself, and have exchanged some emails with Mike at Flying Dragon .  Keep us posted.
