B30-1 .22 review - update
« on: March 02, 2007, 08:26:12 AM »
I received this rifle on Monday 2-26. It is a very nice rifle. The bluing looks good as does the stock. The stock doesn't have much grain but it is consistent and not blotchy looking.
The rifle was a little twangy out of the box and needed a good cleaning. I tore it down last nite and did a lube tune on it as well as shrink wrapping the rear guide, deburring all the slots and polishied the spring ends. I polished  the trigger goup also and reaasembled the gun.  WOW what a difference. This thing shoots great and has a nice solid thunk when fired, no more twang. I loctited all the screws and reinstalled the Simmons 44 mag scope.  I installed a sling which is a must if you are going to hunt with it. I went home at dinner and fired about 50-60 shots thru it and it seems to be a very accurate gun.
I set up the chrono and shot 10 shots of each pellet thru it.  these are the ave fps.
JSB exact  740 fps
beeman FTS 740 fps
Beeman Crow Mag 690 fps
CRPHP   785 fps
RWS s-dome 790 fps
RWS s-h      800 fps
I am leaning toward using the CPHP as my hunting pellet as it was giving very good accuracy at 35yds, even in the wind.
I am very happy with this rifle and would reccomend it if you want a heavy duty hunting gun and can do a little tuning.

Well I shot a few hundred rounds thru this since last week and it is getting better.
I adjusted the trigger and my groups shrank in half.
I chronied it Sat nite and it picked up about 25 fps with all pellet types. It is shooting the premiers at 802-810, and Beeman FTS at 770-775
It looks like it will be a keeper.

Nice review Randy, sound's like your happy with  the gun. You might want to try the Predator .22 pellet if you do any kind of hunting. Ed

I agree with Ed,,, very nice review.  I'd also be curious how the Predator pellets would perform in your rifle.  Best of luck with it.

Having a B30 myself I'd also recommend the Predators.  I have not found a better pellet than Predators for that gun.

That was a good review Randy.. It is always nice to see the before and after opinions of a good tune. Thing about the Chinese guns is they do need some TLC before they SHINE...:)
