Adjusting The AO On Non Adjustable AO Scopes,,,,
« on: September 12, 2009, 02:27:21 AM »
This is a trick I learned recently that is so cool I just gotta share it with those that may not be aware of it.8) Many non AO scopes get a bad rap as being not clear pcs of junk. Alot of them including the one that comes with the Rugers & many Crosmans including the 3-9 X can be adjusted to be VERY clear!! Just simply unscrew the front ring,, under that you will find the threaded part showing can be adjusted for clarity. Simply adjust it to your liking & reinstall the ring. I think some of you are gonna be amazed at how good some of these cheap scopes become!!:D Tim.

i will try it today... if this works i will vote this "thread of the year"... being suffering with focusing issues with my less expensive guns... if i can set them clear on their zeroes they would become easier to shoot and way more enjoyable. thanks for sharing...

I did that with a cheapy Powerline after reading about it here somewhere. It still cheapy but now it is focused at 20m. Worked great!

Thanks Timmy.

I just did that with the cheapo 3-9X32 POWERLINE I had laying here
and now its crystal clear. If it had greater power it would be a nice little scope.

It works, been doing that for quite a while now. Makes them cheap 4x32 scopes useful. Adjust the parallax down  to 10-15 meters and it works well up to 50 meters.
If some is good and more is better - then too much is just right.

Thanks for the tip!! I had bought a Winchester 3x9 "airgun" scope from Pyramid Air some time back, and was exasperated with it because I couldn't get it to focus on my 10 yard target. It was worse the higher I set the power. I then ordered a Leapers 4x32 airgun scope with AO, and its a good one. I took your advise and tried it on the 3x9 and I first put it on 9 power, and then pulled the front ring etc. The only snag was that when I removed and reinstalled the ring, it would actually turn the adjuster ring and throw my setting off and back out of focus. I experimented and finally got it so it will be fine now. So I've got another useable ten yard airgun scope.

dude i got 4 scoped to work on their various guns perfectly. Even a tasco golden antler that had a parallax of 100 yds was reduced to be more useful at 50yds on my new / used webley vulcan.... I still vote this thread of the year!

Timmy My Dad (64 years old) was trying to tell me that one time, and I said oh really cool. As He is kinda behind on stuff sometimes . I never gave another thought to it til now. I have all AO scopes but do have some oldies I will try it on. Guess I better keep listening to Dad for every once in a while He isn't just acting like He knows what He is talking bout.LOL AKJC1977

I had read about this about a year ago right here at GTA.  Completely forgot who started that post.  Anyways.....all my cheap scopes are clear (Maybe I'm lucky) from 8 meters to infinity....so I didn't need to experiment.  Of course if I used high power at 8 meters or less, the view is unclear.  I usually stay under 5X with those cheap scopes at those distances.
