trigger sear drag?

Hi guys, I was viewing a thread yesterday that stated that it was possible for the trigger sear to drag across the hammer when fired thus slowing down the velocity of the gun. Is this true? I've checked my gun over and over and I have tried to get my head around this, but I just can't seem to figure out how. If you keep constant pressure on the trigger when you squeeze through, there should be no way that the sear should make any contact with the hammer as the parts are all mechanically linked. Could someone enlighten me here? I've just finished a trigger tuning job on my Disco and I don't notice any drop in velocity. However I can't tell accurately as I don't have a chrony. Can I get some feedback on those who also have this mod and how does it work for you?

What air rifle are you referring to?  Surely none with a two-stage trigger.

I got the info from the Benjamin Discovery part of this forum, I'm not sure which page though.

The Discovery is known to have this problem . What is happening is the hammer moves faster than the sear can get out of the way for a complete release and the sear drags on the hammer and slow the hammer down . It does not happen to all the rifles . What you would notice with out a chrony is a difference in the sound with a shot sounding weaker from time to time and a shift in poi . Marvin

Thanx Marvin, now that makes sense! Is there a modification to the sear that would fix this, or should one simply loosen up the travel on the trigger. Does this problem exist on stock models with no mods?

It seems to happen to stock rifles as well . If you are having this happen then you are going to have to experiment . I had no problem with mine until I did the 2 screw mod . I removed it and did the sear hole mod and had no problems . Have since gone back to the stock trigger except for a lighter trigger spring . I have heard that if it is persistent problem some have replaced the striker and had no more problems . I have heard that some have tried to mod the stock striker with mixed results . Big ed has a adjustable sear that some say is good . I started shooting big bores and they all have heavy triggers for the most part so I have gotten use to the stock trigger and kind of like it .Good luck Marvin

Thanks Marvin, I'm going out this weekend again and will bring a few tools to remove stock and set screws if necessary. This will be the maiden voyage for the set screw testing, hope it works out. I've read a lot of threads regarding the Disco as being too loud, and for sure some of the Disco shooting I've heard on you tube sounds quite loud. Mine seems quiet, almost too quiet. So I removed the hammer spring and checked it over. It seemed to be bent down at one end a bit. This may contribute to a loss of release energy which will of course result in lower fps. Could this be why my Disco is so quiet?

Can not say for sure . Do not know the history of your rifle . A chrony is a PCP owners best tool and friend .Marvin
