Just KIDDing . . .
« on: September 14, 2009, 12:49:41 PM »
Well, I am rapidly degenerating rapidly into the underworld of powder-burning rifle junkies, folks.
I tried to restrain myself, but was powerless to resist. I just had to push the button on a KIDD 7/14 oz trigger group with the straight, red trigger blade and a KIDD 20-inch .920 bull barrel for my Ruger 10/22.  Sincerely hope to go from 1/2 inch to 1/4 in groups at 50 yards.  Will see . . .

Well, just following the national pastime - deficit spending.  Holy cow, powder burner goodies are more expensive than air rifles, even before you load up the ammo.

First, you need to call yourself a free-lance photographer or independent entertainer or something other than a retired air gun tuner.  Next you need to get yourself a fur coat and get Cherri a tight-fitting, low-cut dress and some come "CFM Pumps".  Then you both need to head down to the local ACORN office . . . but don't get caught.

hehe.  Good for you Tommy!!  Whatever makes someone happy I say go for it!

I am kind of glad I went from my racing hobby to airguns a couple of years ago.  I saved a lot of $ but really miss racing..  So I 'm going to gear up for next year and fix the car up a bit, but will try not to do it as much so I don't go through several sets of Hoosier race tires that cost an arm & and half a leg   8)

.25 @ 50 yds?  Hope you make it.  Will prolly take at least Wolf Match Extra if not a sojourn, nahhhhh, gonna take a BIG jump to the Eley, with tuner.  YOur trigger needs to be in the single digit oz range............from what I've read.  Do you use the pinch method on the trigger?  How high is your scope mounted?  Do you have to have a cheek weld?  Probably the same stuff you AG guys go thru on the bench.......

Talked with an ARA shooter who has a fair share of wood laying around from diff nat'l matches and he said the turning point for him was when another nat'l shooter critiqued him with: " Bench manners are good, just need to fire a LOT more ammo in the match - at the sighter."  He said when he did that, it catapulted him to the top.  I can't even drop his name, darn OldTimer's Disease.  Lives in FL........iirc.  But then it may have been Alba Koikee...........as Bugs would say.  Damn, I'm gonna have fun SAT.

Maybe .25 in CTC is un-realistic.  But let's say one-hole groups at 50 yards.  Seems like I can sometimes get 3 or 4 in one ragged hole, but almost always end up with that flyer.

I am using Wolf Match Target now.  My best assessment is that at my present level, it is the shooter not the ammo that needs improvement.  I have significantly upgraded my front rest.  I have a very solid bench.  And I have tried the pinch method, but not much.  Have been looking at BR stocks for the 10/22 action, but I don't think I want to go there.  More interested in making the 10/22 a "super plinker" than a full tilt BR.  For now, it is still wearing a Boyd Evolution stock, which is hardly an optimum BR set up, I suspect.

Will have to see how much difference the KIDD trigger group and 20 in. bull barrel make.

Tommy, shop down the street from job has Wolf ME for $73/brick if you want to try that, also had some MT priced the same, need to tell them about that, now that I think about it.  Most say the ME is "that" much better than the MT.  But, as you well know, every rifle is totally different, kinda like wives........grin.  We gonna do some offhand tomorrow?  I have some nice, big, ego boosting tgts.   Those 10/22's are fun, but you can put as much into them as a very, very nice bolt gun trying to find the magic combination,  w/o even trying.  But, hey, time/$$ so what else is there?  I'll be sure and bring my smaller set of hammers and punches, calibrated of course, in case you need any "tuning".  Also have a dandy rat tail file for your crown - no need to thank me, after all, what'er friends for?

Just got a diff bbl in for the 41.  Has a Match Dot, very small, that we'll have to wring out.  Need you to be an unbiased third party and give me an opinion as to trigger quality of my two 41's.  One is "new" to me and don't have anything other than function test rounds thru it.  See you tomorrow.

Beyond the Dark Side??  Heck, next thing you know he'll be trimming brass, neck sizing only, turning necks, getting a DI 123 Scale, Wilson dies including a bump die, dandy l'il rotisserie to check run out.  He'll be goggle eyed and mentally fried by the time this all settles out.

Welcome to the other Nether World.............do you hear the Sirens on Scylla?  Lilting isn't it?
