I was still relatively young when I got the GP100 but I liked the dry-fire capability with the transfer bar. I would dry fire at home all the time, with my tiny head full of Elmer Keith stories. Maybe it paid off, maybe not, didn't make me any worse of a shooter and I could hold a sort of group at 100 yards from a rest. I liked the Python but never owned one.

I did eventually take a couple of deer with it, although I don't really consider it an adequate deer cartridge. As a bow hunter I learned that you can get close to deer, and that (drum roll please) shot placement is everything. The deer were within 20 yards. Done with that.

Never liked the bigger Glocks either, to be honest. Plasticky feeling, trigger felt loose and insubstantial, just a soul-less clinical techno toy (with no hammer- what would Elmer say!). But for a carry piece the 27 seemed to fit the bill and I was more interested in performance than soul. I actually started test firing various carry-type guns at a range and found I had the best results with this little .40, which had a nice pop to it. Funny, 'cause I always wanted a PPK (who didn't?), but within a single mag of actual shooting I decided to move on. The 27 and the 636 were my two faves, partly based on absolute simplicity of operation.

I take it you're in law enforcement. Actually I rarely carry around town, (have pepper spray instead) - but I do a LOT of hiking or snowshoeing depending on the season, - and ALWAYS carry out in the woods.

john,...happily retired, miss it still at times. a for carry, actually i seldom do these days preferring to use "situational awareness" to keep me from harms way.

How many of you gentlemen and gentlewomen have actually been in a gun-fight that had bad guys shooting at you?    And you returning fire.   And if so, how many times?  As civilians.
Gentleman of Fortune.

The Glock 19 is perfection in my book. Durable, reliable, compact, accurate, light in weight - with a 17 round clip. I can do without "soul" or "warmth". In Texas, we can carry concealed in our cars without any license. At the range or otherwise, I can go against any other compact pistol with confidence. Comes back to aimpoint better than anything I have shot. It's the only one I own, but I can't think of what I'd rather carry.

I usually carry my Walther P22 if I'm in shorts or my big Ruger P97dc (.45) most of the time.  I use a polymer reinforced instructors belt with a Hunter open top high rise holster to keep it close or use I use a IWB holster from Hunter.

I have a CCW permit and carry a S&W 642 Airweight full of 38 Special +P Hollow Point Hydra-Shoks. Usually carry in a pocket holster or ankle holster.

Hilario, in Michigan it is called CPL.  Because I'm only 5'7" concealing some of my larger handguns is tough.  I've paddled the 1911 but try walking around as your pants are dragged off your butt.  Doesn't look good on 15 year olds and surely doesn't on an out of shape 45 year old!  For me it is my S&W M&P 9mm compact in a paddle or IWB holster.  But 9 times out of 10 my choice is to drop my KelTec P3AT into my pocket.  With a wallet holster it goes into a back pocket or front very easily.  Don't even know its there.  With some hot HPs it will do its job.  I know the debate is knockdown power of a .380 but with 90% of all self protection at 10 yards or less, I know getting hit with even a light 9mm shot will get the antogonist's attention!  Like they say I'd rather have the .380 in my pocket than the 1911 back in the safe.  And with how easy it is to slip in my pocket I'm more likely to carry.

Andy aka larspawn

P.S. This could all change if I can figure a way out to shove my Career 707 in my pocket.  The sound alone would scare them off!
