More power to him ...
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:29:48 AM »
Sounds like quite a guy, ...
.
LAKE WORTH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 91-year-old South Florida man jumped out of bed naked and held an intruder at gunpoint until deputies arrived. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Robert E. Thompson woke up Saturday morning after a would-be burglar climbed his backyard fence and was met by his charging dog, Rettt, a Rottweiler and Doberman pinscher mix. Thompson heard the commotion, grabbed his .38-caliber revolver and phoned police without ever getting dressed.

Deputies said Thompson fired a warning shot as 26-year-old Jose Pasqual started to come toward him. Thompson kept his gun trained on Pasqual until deputies arrived.

Pasqual was booked in the Palm Beach County Jail on a burglary charge and did not immediately have an attorney.

good man! must be a common theme in florida. years ago a man tried to rob a diner in north florida panhandle. when he put his pistol away and tried to run out, he was shot in the head by an elderly man with a .32 revolver at a dead run. the police asked the man how he hit him with a .32 running at that distance, he replied," I left my .45 colt at home today." he was serious, and he was not charged

Nice to hear, one less problem. BTW, - I have a .32 revolver, nice gun actually, and pretty good at 50 feet. Probably a lot more, but with a 2" barrel - I'm not. ;)

oh, a man brandished a .25 at my uncle in his liquor store in Miss. My uncle, a very soft spoken man of slight stature, reached behind the counter to give him the money and shot him with a single shot 10 gauge sawed off shotgun. the gun was filled with rock salt non fatal of course. the first police officer on the scene, a friend of the family, said my uncle was standing over the guy saying, "quit hollering you aint gonna die." the whole time the salt is bubbling in this guys flesh, and my uncle is talking in his calm soft voice. the officer said he had to step outside to stop laughing before he could make the arrest. this happened in the mid seventies, and was told to me by the arresting officer, before things got so out of hand with lawyers and lawsuits.

Like that story. Back in the Stone Age, my father worked part-time in a "package store" (liquor store) in Mass. It was held up several times, so the owner hired an off duty cop to stay out back, and kinda keep an eye out. This one night, in comes a guy with a small hand gun, and holds it up - again. The cop in the back-room took a nap, - and slept through the hold up.

LOL good story John. Years ago I walked up to the cashiers counter at a bar/restaurant. Little did I know the man in front of me was holding up the cashier. He turned to me and told me he wanted my wallet. Had just come from the bar where I had two tall Gin and tonics. I told the guy ok and reached for my wallet with my right hand and when I came back around with my arm I nailed him in the side of the head. It tore his earring out of his ear and knocked him out on the floor. He had an old military 45 in his coat jacket that was not usable..:) He did not get my wallet but instead go an quick right hand up the side of his face..:)

Nice goin' Gene, - another one for the good guys. It's amazing how often the criminal sues - gonna get an easy buck one way or another. Glad the DA wasn't politically correct, ... and figured had his "rights" infringed.
