Got Back To Work On Stocks Today!! :)
« on: September 29, 2009, 01:48:04 PM »
Hutch & I started on the roof early & had a very productive day so I said thats enough at 1 pm. I was beat but while he was huntin/plinking I got down to buisness.I have been stripping all that nasty stippling on Genes FWB 300 (I think??) stock for days & finally got it all off today. Ooooppps,,,,, grip was to small for even me much less them big ole Grizzly Bear Paws of Genes!!Well,,, whats a guy to do?? I tell Ya,,,,, inlay a pc of walnut & even add a bit of palm swell!! (Thanks Kirby for teaching me what "palm swell" is!!) I dont know how I got so lucky getting that inlay to fit so good but man it looks like it grew there!! In case Ya did not know Gene,,, this is not the stock Ya sent me home with,,, our Buddy Dave 1899 was kind enough to send me the original that was busted in half,,,, can Ya see where I repaired it & pinned it with a 1/2" dowell in epoxy??(I doubt it!!) I worked on this one Gene cause it has some "Tiger Stripe" that will blow your mind when the stain goes on!! You will have the other as a spare!! THANKS Dave!! Your 34 Pro Compact stock is done now with 5 coats of tounge oil,,,, hope it aint too shiney fer Ya!! I aint forgot about Ernie,,,, I will get back on his soon. I know how Ya feel about this gun Pop,s,,,, I hope Ya dont mind me using it as a guinee pig!!Its ok,,,,, your original is still intact in the pic!! Understand,,,,, in the pics it is in the very rough shaping stage,,,,, LOTS of hand shaping & sanding yet to be done. Son #2. (Timbo).

Timmy they are absolutly beautiful. I cannot say enough about how talented you are with wood. I am very proud to have had stocks now that have been recrafted by you Timmy..:) You are something very special.... I would not want to change a thing about how either one came out. The grain and oil finish is amazing. Thank you son for all that you have done for me..:)

I hope you will be having a get together in a couple weeks cause I am headed down..:) and if you are not then I am coming down anyway..:) We will have a good time as always..:)

Dave I could not believe it when I was at Timmy's house. He showed me the stock and you could not tell it was ever broken. Not even looking on the inside you could not see any thing visible that looked like a dowel or repair work had been done. I actually thought the stock he showed me was the new one I sent..:) Then he bought out the new stock and I was just dazed..

How did you make the seam where the stock broke so flawless? I'm trying to extend the kiddie stock on my 499b, tips on that would be great.
