Barska vs. BSA
« on: September 29, 2009, 03:32:49 PM »
I recently bought an RWS Panther Pro Compact, and have come to the conclusion that the scope that came with it is complete garbage.  So, I am looking for a new scope that won't break the bank.  I have read a lot about affordable scopes, and it seems that the two names that come up consistently are Barksa and BSA.  I have been eyeballing the Barska 3-12x40 for a few days, but I am not set on it for sure.  Can anyone provide me with any personal experience with these two brands and provide me with some feedback?
Thanks a lot,
Chris

I have the Barska it is OK but I won't buy another one. My little 3-9X32 Leapers seems brighter and clearer. It does focus a little lower than 10 yds~6-7. I don't have a BSA simply because they don't have Mil Dots.

how much do you wanna spend?....you get what you pay for when buying glass.  i suggest you bump it up a notch and get a hawke or bump up 2 notches and get a swift.  you're not gonna get anything decent for less than $100.

I like that Hawke, although I would probably opt for something with a 40mm objective instead.  How does one contact Mr. David Kirby, and if you don't mind telling me, how much did that cost?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, it was a barder deal and some cash. Dave frequents the GTA every day after his bike ride. He has a beautiful collection of springers and PCP's. And I have been lucky enough to be able to talk him out of many of his favorites..:) David is a good man but knows the value of an air rifle.

Thanks Gene ;. Chris , I'm just an airgun nut like everybody else here , I buy/trade /sell a good bit . That's part of the fun of it . I like to look at it as borrowing the airguns, or maybe I should say renting them. My tastes change with the seasons it seems . Keep an eye on the classifieds , I never know when I'll get the hots for a new rifle or pistol and need to sell off a slightly used one to help finance the new one. On the original question, Barska and BSA scope are a hit or miss deal in quality , but so are some of the other brands too . I've had Bushnell Trophys fail as well as a couple of Hawkes . They failed early in their life and I was able to return them . It does seem the more you pay for a scope , the less chance of failure ,and even the most expensive ones will have failures , just not as often.  kirby

I am looking for something with a 40 mm AO with a low end magnification of 3  or 4, and a high end of 9 to 12.
Thanks,
Chris

I have a Barska 3X12X40 A0 ac100008 with mil dot recticle on a .22 powderburner and its a great little scope for the price 59 bucks from optics planet on sale origionally it was 112, its airgun rated and has a lifetime warranty, I have a couple Leapers UTG TS series scopes too and all are good scopes.I also have a BSA red dot on a .22 Beretta Neos .22 pistol that's a good little scope for 40 bucks. And all were under 100 bucks, I hav more expensive scopes on my high power rifles and I can't tell that much difference between them unless its at extremely high magnification and its not that big of a difference- my Leupold is the clearest of all my scopes but it was a 500 dollar scope on a .308 that I regularly shoot @ 200 yrds, I'm not gonna be doing that with any of my springers, the Barska,Leapers, BSA scopes are all good scopes and I wouldn't hesitate in buying another one of any of them, they all have served me well.
Mike Melick tuned Bam B26,with  Leapers 4x16x40ao scope,Gene turbo tuned TF89 with Barska 3X12X40A0 scope and More powder burners than you can shake a stick at.                  Gun control is hitting what your aiming at
