what is your take on the TF89?

I just ordered a Tech Force 89 in .22 it should be here Monday or Tuesday, I also ordered a Leaper's 5th Generation 3X9X40 AO with mil dot recticle to go on it, I feel like a kid waiting for christmas Lol, you would think at my age I wouldn't get so wound up- I don't get this excited when I buy a powderburner and have to wait the 3 day waiting period, I think I've got the airgun bug.

Personally I think it's junk and you should send it to me for disposal. ;-)  I'd love to have one. Just ordered an HW30S last week, so I'm spent out for now.

Lol, I'm sure you'd dispose of it it a timely fashion Jay, I'd say you'll be more than happy with your HW30S though, I was originally wanting one of the new Crossman NPSS models but they are so new that I thought I'd wait to see if they stand up to the test of time.

Most who have owned a TF-89, GH-950 .22 will tell you that they are great accurate hunting guns. With a good tune they are fantastic guns for most all shooting types.

I'm going to the sporting goods store tommorow to pick up some bore cleaner, some shoot-n-see targets and a few tins of different types of pellets to see which type it likes and then I'll be waiting as patiently as possible for the big brown truck to arrive, I can hardly wait, next purchace I'm going to get my son a youth model springer, he's almost 12 and even though he's already 5"9 and 135lb. I want to get him something that won't wear him out cocking it or carrying it but still fits him. I've already had him to a hunter safety course and taught him myself too, he already tough on the squirrels with his .410 H&R, but he can stay in practice with a air rifle, I know shooting airguns has made me a better shot just from getting more trigger time in.

Shawn, it would not be a good idea to use any bore cleaner that is used on powder burner barrels. Goo Gone and a swab is good and then run dry patches through until no more dark stuff gets on patch.

I have one of these in .177 (Gene tuned), another on the way in .22, and recently bought one for my brother because of the awesome $134 sale deal you get at compasseco.com. My biggest issue right now is deciding which scope to keep on it! I put my TF 2-7x32 on my brother's rifle and sighted it in before sending it to him...and the test shots were pretty accurate, even before a tune. I think these guns just keep getting better!

The Leapers is a good choice, I think. I had one of those and couldn't seem to get used to the locking turretts they had -- but it was just me I'm sure.

But my take on the TF89? It is my go-to gun. I'm customizing the new one, getting a tune, and will be the envy of my neighborhood! lol... I don't see the point in getting something other than the TF89 for me, as it serves all my purposes...and it is inexpensive enough to justify some modifications -- which I wouldn't get on a more expensive gun either (custom stock and muzzle brake). At the same time, my experience so far says it is worth putting extra money into.

I have a TF-89 in .22.  Very satisfied with it.  It is used mainly for squirrel removal.  Hits very hard.  And is quite accurate.  It is a heavy AG though.

I think I'd call it 'substantial' rather than heavy... ;-) but it does have some weight to it! The TF87 is even heavier (by about 2 pounds!).

Actually after talking to you earlier is what covinced me to go ahead and order one, I was on the fence for a while and I'll be getting mine tuned too, I bought it with that in mind, thanks again for all the info and answering all my questions.

I believe that the weight helps with reducing the felt recoil and aids accuracy in high powered springers, I think I remember reading that the 89 is about 1lb lighter than a Beeman R1 though something like 7lb and a few ounces, either way I'm a big guy at 235lbs and the weight doesn't bother me.

I completely agree about the reduced feel of the recoil. The TF87 was a heavy rifle, but the weight really helped reduce recoil.

I absolutely love my TF-89.  It is a beautiful gun, hits hard and is relatively easy to cock.  It definetely is pellet finicky though.  Of the 20+ types of pellets I grouped through it, only about 6-7 did well, with all of the RWS being the best by far.

Mine's shooting  about 840fps with RWS H-points and Crossman pointed.  With the Crossmans, I'm nearly shooting through my 3/4" ply backstop.  A 5-shot group will blow it out.  RWS hobbys are a little over 900fps but weren't as accurate.  Over the past 16 months or so, I've grilled many creatures and it is my favorite gun to shoot, including my powder-burners.  My buddy has a nice shooting range with a covered bench and we frequently have shoot-offs out to 100 yards, usually while drinking beers.  Many a bird has met Mr. H-Point by landing on the fence or in the trees or on the target boxes themselves

I have a Leapers mil-dot 4x32 scope with Accushot 1-piece mount and LOVE this combo!  No creep with a 2-bolt scope stop and Loc-tite.

I also took apart my trigger and smoothed all surfaces that moved against each other and rounded the trigger first/second stage screws and greased these items.  It now has a great trigger with a medium first stage and a crisp second stage.  I wish they would have made a metal or at least a better, less wobbly trigger.  

This gun is VERY hold sensitive off of any sort of bench.  I'm considering a tune but the velocities are very consistant and am wondering if a tune would make it less hold sensitive.
