MOA CHALLENGE
« on: October 05, 2009, 02:50:17 PM »
The weather was not my friend this weekend for 30 yard attempts but I was able to shoot indoor late yesterday.
I call my indoor range 20y but in reality, if I stand/sit as close to one wall as I can, without leaning against it, the firing line would be at about 58ft.

Even worse, the software I'm using has preset distances that work great, but when I type in 58, it seems to consider that to be yrds.... So I used one of the presets of 50ft. It was my closest option.

While going from ~ 20y to 30y is a big difference in this challenge I needed to start somewhere and the wind wasn't letting me shoot .177 at 30y outdoor.

I shot a half dozen targets on a sheet I made up (that I'm going to change) and managed 2 of 6. This was AFTER a fair amount of shooting off target.
My manual measurments and the software's measurements were pretty close once you factor in the fact that I shot at 58' and the software think I was at 50'.
I think I'll practice this when I can  and use the next preset of 25y for my next personal challenge then eventually move out to 30y.

After shooting these, I have a whole new perspective on 'groups' and I want smaller ones!

Hello JQR, I am new to this forum, so I do not know what equipment you are shooting with.

My indoor range is 10 meters, but I have up to 30 yards to work with outside from my covered back porch.  My pistols are a pair of Daisy 777, a Webley Nemesis with a Speedpoint red dot, and my rifle is a FWB 601 with a Burris 4.5x14x32.

Welcome CoolHobieCat!

For this, right now I'm shooting a Talon (SS Frame with swaped in 18" .177 barrel) powered with HPA. I'll be testing on Co2 also. As well as different length barrels in both .177 and .22.  The Talon SS is in need of some repair and with the unregulated valve, shot consistency can be frustrating so i'm really thinking of going a different route. I have a few others I could use but nothing that would shoot groups like this, and I haven't been able to get close to this at 30yrds. That extra 30 (okay... 32) feet makes a big difference.
