dissapointed
« on: October 07, 2009, 02:03:44 AM »
I received my TF89 yesterday around 6 pm and I opened it and it was very nice looking, I cleaned it all up and went to shoot it, the first 20 shoots go off without a hitch, the gun is a lot harder to cock than my b26 but no big deal, the trigger was stiff but predictable, I went to shoot it the last time and the safety failed to engage so the barrel wouldn't lock up, I tried 3 times to cock it and the stock cracked it two places along where the stock bolts to the action, I was so dissapointed because it was a beatiful stock and it cracked bad, good news is Compasseco is going to send me a new stock and the tech guy told me how to fix the safety problem, but it was a very dissapointing evening, I hated to see a beatiful stock like that break, and it broke rather easy, I was just trying to cock it, I wasn't getting rough with it, but I guess the pressure of me trying to cock it and the spring being compressed and trying to push back was just to much and it cracked at the thinnest part of the wood where the holes were at,

Well, that would be disappointing and I'm glad Compasseco is stepping up for you. Nothing worse than anticipation spoiled by an out-of-the-box failure.

My worst case was the Marksman 2004/P17 fiasco. I was all fired up after reading about it, it finally appears on my doorstep, my trembling fingers load up the first pellet, and "click-hisssss". Nada. No joy.

Midsouth sent me a call tag and shipped another. Anticipation, click, hiss. Lather, rinse, repeat. I went through 3 of them, and finally asked for them to credit my card back, and gave up. Their support was excellent, by the way, and the issues were not their fault at all.

Other than that, I have had pretty good luck so far. But I feel for ya and hope it turns out well. FWIW, I have the Beeman SS1000 variant and it is a helluva shooter. I credit that gun with getting me back into serious airgunning, which ultimately led me to this forum and a bunch of other guns.

Well come to find out after raking the action out of the stock to fix the safety per their Tech guys instructions, I found a C clip missing of the safety which is also making the trigger wobble from side to side and the pin had backed out and was binding the safety, so they are sending a new stock and C clip, they said they would replace the whole gun if I wanted, but I've already cleaned and shot this one and it has a good firing cycle, I'm afraid I'd get something worse, so just the stock is being sent, I hope this one is as pretty as the last one, I really couldn't believe how easily it cracked in three places, I've seen tougher pine than this wood , the stock is thin up by the barrel though not nearly as thick as my B26, I had plans of getting it zeroed in today but that's shot in the rear end no pun intended

My chime, as you my know I ordered 2 Tf's from Compasseco.  the TF 67 / & the pistol TF35 , the stock was drilled of center at the for arm it was on sideways too. & for shooting it
at a 2' squire peace in card board it hit 2foot high & 1 foot + too the Right?? out of the box, sould not get it even close to middle! took it to the gun shop for a scope ! & the for arm was so far off
they were not able too put a scope on! Dissapointed, & had a ok stock it was missing some dark stain in places! but Like you I had my hopes up too high ,As for QC. as for the tf35 pistol-
at$35.00 bucks a underlever some one had put it in a clamp & left deep marks in the wood, shooting was all over the paper at 5'!! so like you I sent them back ? cost me 18.00 shipping!
Steve said the TF97 was the best gun for what I do. Targets/cans/ such, But I'm  :0 ,either, with the deal, so ask for a refund -it's been about 7 day's now and no refund yet? ..

I have enough problems with the Quest! and the GRT trigger, that I just can't get set right, & shoots very dissapointing. :( it's in the box, to stay til I sale it or been it around a tree!!
Any way I fill you dissapointment , with China products as in my Scooter 150cc/ my sony camera/ a Dorcy flashlight, from sears/ ..

Today is going to be a good??. as my dear friend said, after his stroke "hey lift goes no, Be Happy!! He was 39 then.. I was 54? about when I had mine? It takes allot out of you..
 But Be Happy" O well"happens?? .

Anyway Compasseco is working with you & the stock may look better?? :). Better luck in around the ? .Well I wish you good luck.

I know after seeing the gun up clowe and personal and shooting it, even if the stock hadn't cracked, if I had it to do over again I would have bought a Xisico B28 off Mike Melick but I thought I was being smart and saving 120 dollars, but when I consider that Mikes price comes with a. tune and the quality of my B26 I should have ponied up the extra money, lesson learned, I know better than to go the chep route but I had read So many good reviews on the TF89, I got the gun with plans on having it tuned with the money I was saving, and I can tell that it does shoot harder than my B26 but I don't know that it would shoot harder than a B28, my B26 is so much smoother and refined than the TF89 its like night and day, and not to mention quiter, the TF89 sounds like a .22LR compared to the B26 sounding like a air rifle, the one good thing I can say is the 20 plus shots that I got off with the TF89 at ten meters were 1 ragged hole with open sights, although my B26 will do the same at 35 yards with a 4X32 Leapers, all in all the B26 feels like a 2008 BMW and the TF89 feels like a '75 Ford truck not that its a bad thing both have they're place

If it sounded like a .22 LR it was probably detonating lubes in the chamber and bore from the factory. Chinese guns are notoriously "well lubed", meaning slathered in oil and grease, to survive storage and shipping. You gotta go through the barrel and outsidevery thoroughly with Goo Gone and let it dry before shooting. They may still do it a little, depending on the lubes in the power plant, but thatshould clear up quickly. The Mike Melick versions will already be taken care of, but straight from China they need attention.

The TF89can really be a better gun than your experience suggests. You guys sure had some bad ones (and that is still part of the risk of Chinese guns, so buy from a place with a good return policy). A friend that I recommended one to also had a poor one out of the box- it was the dual caliber version and you could not lock down the set screw on the barrel enough to keep it from wiggling. He ended up with a MM B26 from a member on this forum, and it was very sweet.

Hope the next one is better! There is a lot of help available here on that model if you get one worth keeping,

Dave I did clean the barrel inside and out with goo gone and ran dry patches through the barrel before I ever shot it, I don't have a spring compessor or the tools nessesary to tear the gun down, if I did I would do a re-lube on it myself, and put ina Maccari spring, the breech seal on my TF89 also looks as if it needs replaced, it has a spot on it that doesn't look good at all, my B26 looks to have a much thicker more durable seal, where the TF89 has what appears to be just a small O ring that you could find in any auto store? As soon as the new stock gets here I'm going to send it to Gene for him to go through it so it will be Right, I have O.C.D when it comes to my guns, cars, and my boat, everything has to be right or I'm not happy lol

I don't know that it is fair comparing a tuned gun to one that isn't. I'm sure Mike does a great job with the B26. If you have that TF89 tuned with the money, like you said, I don't think you'd be disappointed.

I was comparing the quality of the materials, and I'm sure after the tune it will be smoother but the stock won't be as well made and the trigger group still wobbles from side to side, I was just saying that from what I have to look at between the two the B26 is a much better made gun just my opinion

Just saying in case there might be a delay. They've been so good to me I hate for anyone to be dissatisfied as it sorta negates my pleasant experiences.

Also, did you shoot the B26 before having it tuned? I had my TF89 for 6 months before getting it tuned, and I'm glad I did because I can feel the difference in the trigger, cycle, power and smoothness.
