Feds limit Ariz. sheriff's crackdown on illegal immigrants
.

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will continue his controversial "crime suppression operations" despite a Department of Homeland Security decision to strip him of authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status, the East Valley Tribune reports.
.
Its all politics, says Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County.

Arpaio will still have the power to check the immigration status of people booked by his officers, but not the authority to conduct street patrols looking for illegal immigrants.
.
AZ_GT His crime suppression operations are saturation patrols in designated areas where deputies would find illegal immigrants by stopping them for traffic infractions and minor violations, the paper says.

The Department of Justice and other federal agencies are investigating the sheriffs office on accusations of racial profiling during the operations, the paper says.

Arpaio said he will be able to still conduct the crime sweeps under state human smuggling laws and an obscure federal law that allows local police to arrest illegal immigrants.

A spokesman for the Phoenix office of ICE declined to comment until after pending agreements with the country are signed.

I listened to the sheriff for a while on the radio today.  He sounded very much like a sheriff we had around here for a while, with similar ambition.  Here's the wiki entry for our ex-High Sheriff, with lots of the worst stuff left out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_F._Robinson
Tommy was always looking for a way to get on TV or in the paper.  Currently, he's fighting to stay out of jail (again) for bankruptcy fraud.

This guy in Arizona; you reckon the reason the feds are putting him on a leash is because the illegal aliens are complaining, or because the US citizens that the deputies detain are complaining?  I didn't hear him say how many people his deputies have to detain for each illegal alien they find.  Lets say, just for argument's sake, they have to stop and hold five people to find illegal one alien.  Would that be too many?  What if their odds were better, and one out of every two people they stop on a pretext and hold for a few hours turns out to be illegal, with false ID?  Would that ratio make it OK to detain US citizens for no cause, other than they look like the illegals?

Maricopa County was at 31% Hispanic last year, according to the census.  About 59% was Caucasion non-Hispanic.  It has been trending Democratic.  I'm betting the sheriff plans to run for statewide or federal office next election.

I wish the Sheriff of the county where my family resides would check more of these undesireables that wander around all day and night.  Ask them for I.D. and why are they in areas they don't live in .  Especially after the sun goes down.   My son lives in the rural part of the county and they have people coming up at all hours of the day and night.  Some outright begging for 'gas money'.   And some giving lame excuses of why they are there on the property.  Most cannot or pretend not to speak English.   One day a car load of Mexicans blasted down the road when approached and disappeared.   Later, crying was heard coming from one of the fields.   These fine , upstanding folks had left a child behind.  The chld was turned over to the Sheriff's department.

Needless to say,  pistols on the hip have become the fashion statement of the day.
Gentleman of Fortune.

Arizona, Texas, and California will be owned by Mexico eventually..:) Not in that order of complete takeover either..:)  Just look at California and how it is taking place.. In California the caucasian population is now a minority. There are more Mexican politicians now who push their agenda for safe refuge for illegal aliens from Mexico.

What about those laws that were passed to protect the minorities? Will Caucasian and black Americans be able to establish being a minority in the work place in the future..:)

Really a big change since the late 40's and 50's..........:(
