The Nobel Peace Prize has not had any credibilty for decades.   Don't the recipients recieve $ 1,000,000. for this 'honor'?   If so shouldn't  it go to the Government?

Didn't Al Gore get one of those things - for biggest liar on the planet or something??? ... The way it's run now, - this should probably be looked upon as an annual event.

I read on the Yellow R&P forum that the nominations for the NPP had to be submitted by 9 Feb 09. So when Obama was nominated, he'd been the POTUS for about 3 weeks! So I figure there is one of 2  things going on here.
1. The nominator, who ever he/she was, has a real functioning crystal ball. They were able to see in the future, all the great things Obama will do during his time in office. These things will be so great that he deserves the NPP. Thus they nominated him 3 weeks into his term.
2 It's strickly a political and or racially motivated decision.

So which do you think it more plausible? 1 or 2?
I look at it like when they awarded the NPP to Yassir Arafat. Boy he really advanced peace in the Middle East all those years!

I thiink back in the 70`s Yassa Arafat won the Nobel Peace Prize also. Those Norvegian judges/choosers lost all credibility after that.

Whoops, just noticed HINTS posted that too.

Does anybody need an explanation for this award.   Think...Politics.   The Nobel Prize  for Peace has become as meaningless as a cheap, ratty , flea infested  teddy bear from the fair.

Thorbjorn Jagland, the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said:

“We would hope this will enhance what he is trying to do.”

Jagland,  studied briefly at the University of Oslo, whence he graduated with a one-year degree in Economics in 1975. He started his political career in the Workers' Youth League, and served as national leader from 1977 to 1981. Jagland also sat in Buskerud county council from 1975 to 1983. Jagland's cabinet, albeit short-lived, was marked by controversies from the beginning to the end, with two ministers being forced withdraw following personal scandals. Jagland, who was also ridiculed for his quotes and statements, resigned following the 1997 election, even though his party won the most votes.

Jagland has as much political weight and insight into the real establishment of peace as BHO did before his epic rise to the US Senate and Presidency.

It's no surprise that five Norwegians will give a monumental award to an apologist left winger who will do and say whatever wins the adulation of the world. It's an absolute travesty to see BHO equated to Theodore Roosevelt. Accepting this award certifies the hollow front-runner aspect of the improbable rise to the seat of power this guy has been gifted.

BHO has already said he will donate his prize "to charity". Right.
