I usually support the police 110%, - but a yahoo is a yahoo - no warning, and he puts six into the homeowner, - including into his back.

I agree.

Homeowner in my area was shot and killed when he walked around  to the front of his house because he had heard a car in his driveway.   Deputy said he 'thought' the 70 yr. old was armed.

Hum-bug!

Although it is wrong, unless you have walked a mile in a Policeman's or Soldiers shoes, or anyone facing the potential of imminent death in the service of others, you just can't imagine the mental terror of walking into potential deadly situations day after day wondering when this time could be your last call !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I don't know of anyone out there that can say for a certainty that it couldn't happen to them.

Yesterday a man shot and killed the women he was going to be married to today, when she walked into his home unexpectedly last night. She wasn't supposed to be there, but now she's dead.

Like those that have shot cows and other hunters, identifying targets when in extreme mental and physical conditions, can be impossible at best. You start seeing what you expect to see, and you do not want to die, today !!!!

So having been there, I will not be the one to cast the first stone. Put anyone into these situations often enough, and either the person will shoot when he shouldn't, or be shot, because they hesitated.

It's wrong and sad in either situation, only the officer will now live with the knowledge that he killed an innocent men for the rest of his life ! and an innocent man is dead !

I dont think it is a matter of who is wrong or right point, only that people are suffering as a result. I am sure the officer is hurting too.
This is a sad situation.

This is wromg!  Six times!  Why not once?  Why would the guy just keep on shooting?  He must have stopped when he ran out of ammo!  This kind of thing happened down the street from me a few years ago.  Three cops shot a African male (grad student from Africa) 21 times!!!  He knew little english, and was trying to pull his wallet out of his coat pocket when shot.   During the 38 Special days...things like this did not happen...officers were more careful...but bad guys were not as nasty as they are today...today more cops are killed...bad guys are well armed, so I can see why things like this happen.

I almost shot several undercover cops by mistake with a Winchester model 94 in 30-30.  They pulled up to my door in worn dirty shirts and pants and started cussing at me and my friend who they had just chased down!  I held them with the 30-30 until they produced ID's...afterwords they told me they thought they were dead when I aimed the 94, and they saw the hammer back.  I had 170gr handloads and they would have went right on though the bullet proof vests they had on.  They were scared, and I was sacred, we all were glad it worked out ok.  It was a case of "wrong person".

I own many guns, Smiths, Glocks, rifles, and many air guns.  I don't keep anything loaded, I don't want a CCP.  I am not gun-ho about "using a gun"...life is too hard to replace.  I have been broken into once...I took out the guy bare-hand...and that time I did have a loaded gun handy!  I just was so mad at the guy I forgot the gun!  But today guns are things of pleasure, target shooting, ect.  But I do keep a Special Forces knife by my bed...and it is out of the scabbard!
