B-26 velocity question for MM
« on: October 12, 2009, 01:46:30 PM »
Mike,
Do you keep records of any chrony testing?  I was wondering if you could tell me how fast your tuned B-26's in .177 usually shoot?
I sold an English made Webley early this year and was comparing my MM B-26 to the Webley in velocity.
I'm guessing around 870fps as an average?
Thanks.

I ran my MM B-26 .177 through the chrony today using 3 different pellets. The rifle probably has 400 to 500 shots through it. Per Mike, it had a standard tune using factory parts. The results for 10 shots of each pellet are as follows:

Gamo Match 7.71 gr --average velocity=872.8 fps, extreme spread=21.65, standard deviation=6.16
Gamo Hunter 7.56 gr --average velocity=907.0 fps, extreme spread=27.33, standard deviation=9.00
JSB Exact Diabolo 8.4 gr --average velocity=814.8 fps, extreme spread=12.21, standard deviation=3.31

Hope this helps.

Mike tested my B26-2 before he shipped it to me like I believe he does all guns he tunes. Using a 8.6 gr. pellet, it shot 930 fps.  Terry

I don't own the .177 but my .22 shoots 670s with 14.3 grain CHPs and 720s with. RWS hobbies, so I'd say high 800s isn't at all unusual with thelighter .177s
Mike Melick tuned Bam B26,with  Leapers 4x16x40ao scope,Gene turbo tuned TF89 with Barska 3X12X40A0 scope and More powder burners than you can shake a stick at.                  Gun control is hitting what your aiming at

I got the folowing numbers on a non MM b26 in.22. It is home tuned and reassenbled with a bit of TLC. Rifle is broken in and has about 800 shots through. All numbers are averages taken the same day, at 77 degrees F, at aprox 100 feet above sea level and following a 30 shot string, ignoring error messages and reshooting them to get a reading. Totals are actually rounded down to the nearest 5 fps increment.
Beeman H&N: 690 fps
Beeman Lasers: 805 fps
Gamo Hunter: 705 fps
Daisy Wadcutter: 740 fps
RWS hobbies: 775 fps.

Thet all group well, with the Daisy's taking 1st place. rifle zeroed at 25 yards, and at that range the Beeman lasers put out 14.09 fpe. Daisy's put out 12.92 fpe at the same range. For short range the lasers are well, like a laser. when i am hunting quarry at 40 yards, the Daisy's catch up on energy, and just physically seem to hit the target harder. I hope this helps. the .177 rubs the low 900's with Cpls, but i have not done extensive testing with it, as the .22 is such a great sporting gun.

:D Hi Troy, I had to dig back into my chrony notes for  this one. When I ordered my B26 from Mike he said he gave it his "UP GRADE TUNE, SHOULD SHOOT JUST SHY OF 1000 FPS WITH LIGHT AMMO."  His words not mine,  Jan. 21, 09.  RWS SUPER H POINT WENT 975.0 FPS....close enough! ! ! ! !   TEMP.86 WINDS 8-12 MPH  BEEMAN LAZER 6.5 GR. Light weight, will not wear you out if you shoot all day. Mike said "THIS WILL BECOME YOUR FAVORITE."  He was not joking.    All of the above testing were five shot stings.  I have a Leapers Bugbuster 3-9 mounted on her now. Excellent combo.  I have not re-chronyd since I got her in Jan.  Hope this helps.  CHINAGUNNER

What really matters is the overall deviation. This will tell you that your gun is healthy. As long as the numbers match the caliber.

Wow, that was more feedback than I expected!  I really appreciate everyone's time and effort that you all spent to answer my question.
I don't believe a letter was included when my MM b26 was shipped.

I just received my NIB XS-B26 shipped to my front door about 4 hours ago. I ran it through my chrony after an initial cleaning and sight in of about 30-40 shots. The temperature in southwestern Indiana is 54 degrees and the muzzle of the B26 was approximately 7 feet from the chrony. I know it is not even close to being broken in but I wanted to see how the air rifle progresses over time. The B26 is stock and not tuned in any manner.

(A) Crosman 7.9 grain pointed premium pellets.
(1) 916.6 fps
(2) 918.1 fps
(3) 918.4 fps
(4) 921.5 fps
(5) 912.0 fps
(6) 920.8 fps
(7) 913.6 fps
(8) 910.0 fps
(9) 910.4 fps
(10) 908.7 fps

Average velocity 915 fps   Average energy 14.69

(B) Crosman 7.9 grain hollow point premier pellets
(1) 884.8 fps
(2) 901.0 fps
(3) 896.0 fps
(4) 875.8 fps
(5) 904.3 fps
(6) 900.4 fps
(7) 895.2 fps
(8) 908.9 fps
(9) 892.3 fps
(10) 896.0 fps

Average velocity 895.4 fps  Average energy 14.06 fpe

(C) Crosman 10.5 grain domed Ultra Magnum pellets
(1) 780.1 fps
(2) 782.4 fps
(3) 777.9 fps
(4) 774.1 fps
(5) 776.7 fps
(6) 776.7 fps
(7) 782.0 fps
(8) 773.7 fps
(9) 774.5 fps
(10) 777.4 fps

Average velocity 777.5 fps  Average energy 14.09 fpe

I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect from a brand new untuned XS-B26 just 4-5 hours old will do. This air rifle cost me $150.00 shipped to my front door and I am impressed to say the least.
