A Couple ??? about Marauder & SCBA Tank
« on: October 18, 2009, 03:02:18 AM »
Just a couple , With my new set up to fill my Marauder my gauge on the gun and the fill station are off by around 300 psi  which one should I believe. Next is some times when I fill the check valve in the gun doesn't close so when I bleed down the fill hose it starts to dump all the air from the gun and during that sometimes it does set but only after loosing 500 psi should a little light oil fix that or should it be taken down and cleaned ? I never had the problem wile filling with a hand pump.
Thank you for the help

I had a similar issue once, for safety's sake I went with whichever gauge was reading the lowest, until I had the chance to use a different gauge and decide which one was off.  Question, though.  Did the gauge on your pump and the Marauder agree?  The other option is to buy a new gauge for your fill station, they're not that expensive and are available at your local NAPA auto parts.  BTW, I recommend NOT going with a liquid filled gauge, we don't need the damping, and I've had issues with them leaking.

Regarding the pressure dump, are you sure you're filling properly?  You want to be filling slow, and bleeding fast.  If you slowly open the bleed valve, sometimes the gun's fill valve can stay open, thus dumping pressure.  This can be a good thing, say if you need to empty your rifle for shipping.  Open the bleeder fast and wide and the gun valve should snap shut.  If not, then you may have an issue with the gun valve, requiring pulling it and cleaning it.  I believe the Marauder is using a Foster fitting with a check valve, it's not uncommon for a small piece of grit to get caught in one of those, of for the check valve to not seat properly.  Good luck.

Like Dave said......open the bleed as fast as you can. I remember reading about someone with the same problem. One thing they said that helped was having the muzzle pointing downward when opening the bleeder. Don't know.....just what I read.......

bleed all pressure, remove the foster fitting and put a spring behind it.  That way the valve does not rely solely on air pressure to close it.

I had the same problems, i could not open the bleed screw fast enough and all air in gun tube would bleed out,now i open bleeder  fast by using a pair of pliers, one fast twist and i,m done.
BTW,i have same valve as yours with a DIN tank fitting, but the bleed screw is hard to open fast with bare fingers.
