temperature effect?
« on: October 18, 2009, 04:24:29 AM »
Hey guys, I just took out the Disco this morning and found that there was a noticeable difference with the release of air pressure. It is getting quite a bit colder with the coming of the fall, and what I'm noticing is that the air pressure is decreasing much more rapidly than I had experienced in the warm summer months. Do you think that the air temp would have this effect on the gun and is there anyone else experiencing this same thing?l

I took mine squirrel hunting yesterday morning and I only shot it 3 times but I did notice that the guage on the bottom seemed to show just a tad lower than 2000 psi when it was 38 degrees.
And I know friday night when I filled it, it was dead on 2000 psi and the temp was close to 75 in the house. So I would have to say yes, it would seem that colder temps would cause a "slight" pressure drop.
Funny you should post this question, since I was thinking the same thing when I was hunting saturday morning. But you can always look on the bright side, at least the drop is way less than what would happen with CO2!!!!!
Thanks Ray

Ray, I still manage to get 30 powerful shots. Besides, when I find that the pressure drops a little low, I simply dial up the power adjuster and I get the power I need. Actually, with the power adjuster turned full, I can shoot right down to the end of the "yellow zone" on the gauge with great results.
Now only one problem, I've got to wait till spring now to get at those pesky gophers!!
Thanx, Shel.

Who knows, maybe its the guage thats effected by the temp and really not the air inside the tube????

The shot count on my new Disco went from 35 good to 25 good shots, and coincidently the temperature went from

the 70's when I was first shooting it to the 40'swhen I got to shoot it again. So, I suspected the temperature was the culprit.

I found out that the temperature won't have that much effect on the pressure.

If it was 700Finsideand you filled it to 2000 PSI, and then you left it outside to stabilize at say 450 F

the tank pressure would onlydrop by95 PSI down to 1905 PSI.

Upon further investigation, I think it has something to do with the valve.

I was discussing this with Mike @ TKO, and he was explaining some of the possibilities of my shot count going

from a steady 35 good to 25 good. How much has yor shot count decreased?

I didn't get to shoot that much saturday when it was cold, so I can't say.
sorry

Has to do with the "Dead Guy Rules"

Dalton, Boyle, Pasqual, all those physics guys..:)

For every degree above or below the temp when filled, the pressure will drop or rise a coresponing 5 psi..   All has to do with the gas laws:)

Heck  I can never remember witch "dead guy" gets credit for the temp thing...

Boyle does volume...Based on pressure/density...

Etc...  :)
