Pneuma gets a face lift
« on: October 20, 2009, 05:49:03 PM »
Haven't had time to do much shooting with anything lately, and the Pneuma got put aside for more work since I didn't get much interest when I had it for sale.  Still have an air leak, but I've done a couple of other things.  For those that aren't familiar with this rifle, this is what it looked like when I got it:

Although the synthetic thumb hole stock looks cool, I really didn't like it much.  It's hard and kind of slick, and really didn't fit me that well.  I'd considered trying a stock from another gun, but hadn't gotten beyond the point of thinking about it :-).  Then, I saw an ad on Brad's Classifieds, someone had a Halestorm that wanted to trade stocks.  Again, for those not familiar with these rifles, the Halestorm is the repeating version of the Pneuma, and comes with a sporter style wooden stock.  Well, the deal was done, and this is what it looks like now:

In truth, the picture really doesn't do it justice.  This is one of the nicest pieces of wood I've had on any of my guns, and is a deep, rich brown with nice figure.  I don't know what the wood is, but the Turks sure know how to pick some nice lumber.  Oddly enough, the accuracy and consistency seems to have increased markedly, too.  After a little bit of scope adjustment, I was tearing up a 1/4" bull at 20+ yards with CPH's.  I WILL get that air leak fixed, and when I do, it'll be back on the block, probably with my Diana 46E.  I still want/need a .22 hunter, and at the moment, I'm thinking that will be an FX Cyclone.  I'm STILL kicking myself for selling my .177 Cyclone earlier this year :-(!  Later.

A friend of mine knows a representative that works for Umarex. He is considering having him hook him up with a Pneuma at wholesale cost. He was asking me what I thought of the Pneuma and if I thought he should go forth on the deal. So, I told him I thought it was a good gun for the price, but I would like to get some other's opinions on the gun. How do you like the accuracy of the gun? He wants to be able to take 50 yd shots and beyond, is the gun accurate enough and capable to do this? Any other tips would be very helpful.

I have absolutely no complaints with the accuracy of this rifle as it's now set up.  Might be a combination of factors, but I don't think it shot as well with the synthetic stock, which really doesn't make much sense, but what can I say?  Don't know what wholesale price would be, but I think this thing should be priced about he same as a BAM B51.  And like the BAM's it's going to need some immediate work on the internals, nothing major, just some cleaning and detailing that should have been done at the factory.  The trigger also needs some serious attention, mine was so heavy when I got it that I couldn't shoot it without pulling myself off target.  The hardest part of that is working without a decent exploded diagram, the one on Umarex's sight isn't much help at all.  If you're just talking targets, this is definitely a 50 yard gun in .177, maybe longer.  For hunting, it's probably okay to 50 yards in .22.  Can't say for sure, mine is a .177.  If he decides to go ahead and wants some info on working on it, let me know.  I'd be happy to help out in any way I can.  Later.
