Discovery sound level
« on: October 24, 2009, 05:52:35 AM »

I don't own a Discovery, but I'm considering making the purchase. My major concern is the noise level of the Disco. I would love to purchase the Marauder because of how quiet it is, but I could pick up a Disco and pump for much cheaper. If I were to get a TKO 6.5" brake for a Disco, how much would that quiet it down? I would primarily use the gun for squirrel and pest control around my house so for that reason I want a very quiet gun. Would a 6.5" brake reduce the noise level to that of the stock Marauder?

Tested: 22 cal Marauder vs 177 Disco and TKO 6.5  Very close in sound level. I think it would fit your needs. Skip

All you will hear is the "Ping" from the hammer spring, and a slight rush of air.It will make about as much noise as a manual staple gun,if that answers your question.

OK! Thanks guys for the quick replies. That helps me better make a decision. I know that I'll be very satisfied with the Disco, and I'm considering getting one from Mac1 so I know that it'll be tip top when I take that first shot!

Great Question you have on the Discovery, I like quite so have resisted the temptation to get one for that reason. Tony

discos, are prett loud, especially in an urban enviorment. but witht he brake on it, that would make it backyard friendly, ive never had a disco but ive had TKO brakes before, there great!
if at first you dont succeed, re-load, kill count 2010.

Just ordered the TKO 6.5" for my Disco. This week I'll be spending my time peeking out the window for the Brown truck.

Yes,it will be.It's the best $42.00 you will ever spend on a Disco....extremely close to a Marauder in sound level.I didn't believe it until I heard it myself!

Wow, you weren't kidding Jeff. I just finished installing the TKO and Holly Molley, I thought the Disco was broke except for the fact it was still producing 5 shot one ragged hollers with the same POI and burying pellets at the same depth into the duck seal. The loudest sound comming from my basement shooting range was my loud belly laughs after each shot. Yes Sir, no more lead dust for me.

Can't wait for mine.Shot it four times in the back yard today and decided to put it up to keep from causing a problem.Sounds like a 22 long .Neighbors may get upset. My TKO is on the way.Had to shoot the nitro piston ss for awhile. It is fairly quite.Good day.

You're going to love the TKO it is unbelievable. The fill cap won't fit after installing the TKO. To protect the fill nipple I went to Advance Auto Parts and bought what is called a Bypass Cap Assortment made by Dorman in the Help isle. It has 2 each of four different size black rubber caps. The 5/8" cap fit the fill nipple perfect and doesn't look bad either. Other auto parts places probably have them too. The assortment pack cost about $3.00.
