Norica GOLIATH
« on: October 28, 2009, 11:48:38 AM »
Has anyone else seen this at Pyramydair?  Looks very cool. But is it worth the $$$?
Is Norica same as BAM?

My guess is that your money will be better spent elsewhere.

Read all three parts and judge for yourself.

Saw a review by airgun writer Pete Wadeson in one of our british magazines,Pete really liked the Norica Dreamhunter (AKA Hammerli Nova) when he reviewed it last year, but he didn`t even bother putting a scope on the Goliath ,just a red-dot for close range ratting;-which to me speaks volumes.I`d personally give it a miss, over here in the U.K.you could get a Gamo Whisper VH or a Weihrauch HW99s (or even a HW57) for the asking price of the Goliath.

Take care

I was just getting ready to start a thread about this gun but somebody beat me to it. PyramydAir is advertising these things at 269 bucks I think and saying the .22 version shoots 802FPS which I highly doubt, but the gun looks like a POS pardon my french, plastic plastic and more plastic, its design can't promote accuracy, if it shoots anywhere even close to its advertised power level it would have to be very very hold sensitive. I'm not biting on this one unless I'm proved wrong, it may look cool but at that price- I'd rather throw in another 30 bucks and buy a Crossman NPSS, heck for that price you could even buy a TF89 and have a good start at having it tuned.
Mike Melick tuned Bam B26,with  Leapers 4x16x40ao scope,Gene turbo tuned TF89 with Barska 3X12X40A0 scope and More powder burners than you can shake a stick at.                  Gun control is hitting what your aiming at

I tend to agree with Black Momba... There are allot of other real good shooters out there that cost a whole lot less. Who wants plastic anyway...:)

Hey, I wouldn't think about buying this for $269.  For a hundred less - maybe. And yeah, sites on top of a tall handle isn't the greatest setup (never liked 'em on my M16, but if you have a straight stock you have to raise the sights to avoid excessive head lean).
I just think it's neat to see someone make something different than just another steel tube stuck into a piece of wood. ;-)

Yes, my RS2 Combo was from Walmart. It's a good deal for $$.  I put a hundred or so pellets thru it with the .177 barrel and then installed the .22 barrel.  I've shot a couple hundred pellets in .22. It's got a smooth action, decent trigger, and accurate. I thought I read somewhere that it has the same powerplant as the TF89 which has received good reviews. I'm a newbie to this airgun stuff so I'm easy to please so far. Kinda went nuts with the purchases for a few months. But I can't say that I was disappointed with any of them for the price. Well maybe the XS-B3-1 trigger... It's a hard pulling POS!
I finally got a Chrony. So I hope to post some objective reviews of some of my "cheap" springers in the future.

I'm actually with you on the "something new" view of this gun.

The looks are interesting and I welcomed them.  Unfortunately I've become accustom to doing an excess of research before I plunk down my money on anything.  When I found TG.'s three part review of this particular air rifle I was disappointed but greatfull that someone spoke up on it.

Cool idea but apparently not well put together.

Hi everyone,

Don't beleive that (ONE) review. I own this gun and take it out every weekend to the range and it is unbelievably smooth with a medium recoil, it fires quitely and has an easy trigger.

The cocking effort is easy, and get this... It actually shoots at the listed 800 fps. I have seen the crony readings from PA's video review, however with my lighter grain pellets I get 800+ fps.

With heaiver grains I get 725-750 consistently depending upon the brand and weight. I prefer the RWS Super-H-Point which give me 17.73 Energy (ft-lbs) @ 14.2 Grains @ 750 fps.

For speed my Gamo Raptor .22 Cal, 9.9 Grains PBA's meet the 800 FPS advertised (everytime).  My crony picked up 820+ during trials but averages out to 805 fps.

The Norica is SICK, I love it and I think it deserves more reviews. My kids and I are hitting shot shells from 40 yards away wih extreme accuracy and fierce impact strikes.  This gun rocks.

The Red dot sight that comes with the gun is above average too. I added a bipod to mine. 8)

My Norica 88 is on the far right of the picture...

I felt the PBA should clock much more speed but at .22 caiber I just find that 50 to 100 fps aobve normal is all you are going to get; unlike with a .177  gun rated at 1000 fps ,where you "should" get up to 200 fps more.  It just does not happen on my Norica.  But I am not trying for speed as much as I am for ft-lbs, impact + accuracy.
