I got my new Flyrod today
« on: October 29, 2009, 02:46:26 PM »
and had to go and try it out . It's a 7 foot 4 weight TFO Bug Launcher . A nice little rod for less than $80 and comes with a lifetime warranty . I met my UPS driver around 10:15 this morning , an hour later my brother shows up and we take the long 8 minute drive to the local pond with my 15 foot AlumiCraft boat in tow. The pond is 375 acre watershed lake that's been my home lake for the last 15 years or so . We were fishing by noon . I started off with a foam hopper on one rod and a rubber legged wasp on the new rod . The fishing started slow the first ,but a nice 7" fat bluegill broke the ice on the wasp, and got things started . Several casts later , no more bites , and and I was ready to try something else , so I tied on a #8 black woolly booger and the next cast , I had another nice bluegill on. After about 5 hours later , my brother and I had caught about 35-40 fish including a few yearling green trout (large mouth bass) and were worn out ready to head home . If we'd wanted keep a mess , we'd had about 20 keeper hand size "bream". The black woolly booger proved to be the lure of the day . My brother took a couple of cell phone pictures ; when he sends them to me I'll post them. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the fall colors of the trees around the lake were picture perfect . A great day to spend on the lake. kirby

The 7' #4 is a great "creek rod".  Not too long, so you can cast under the overhanging stuff on the small creeks up here in WNC.  Enough "oomph" to get a decent cast with dry files, beaded nymphs and small bugs.  Speaking of beaded nymphs, try a bead-headed nymph on those bream sometime.  Nice rod David.  What reel?

Yea ; I get caught up in my airguns sometimes and forget my other hobbies . It's nice to break away and get out doing something different . Tommy ; I like a Montana stonefly black/yellow when the bream are bedding along with a woolly worm in brown . It'll take big shellcrackers too . The 7 footers have become my favorite length in a flyrod. Most of my flyfishing is done from my boat . I have been giving some thoughts to a lighter one ; maybe a 2 or 3 weight .  kirby
