Making a stock for a RWS 48 a Stutzen type. the start.
« on: November 01, 2009, 03:35:40 AM »
OK I just got started on the Stutzen stock for the RWS 48 I have Warren's RWS 48 to use for fitting and his stock for using to copy. I started with a nice piece of 4/4 quater x 8 " x 8 ft. Walnut and I've cut it in half to laminate it together so we will not have any warpage this will stablize the mtls. Also the wood is a color match whis way we used to make all our teak cabinets out the same color teak for each boat so all the cabinates matched , teak also has many colors . Next was to lay out the stock and cut out the outside of the stock as you will otice I have left the top of the stock flat without any cutting this is so when I use my table router or the table saw to cut out the inlets for the action I have a flat surface to work from. The next is to lay out the inlets using the RWS 48 stock as a templet as you will notice I've clamped they together so I can transfur the cuts from one to the other stock so I have a accurate place to use as a guide for the cutting. see the pictures the next set of picitures will be of the stock having the inlets cut out.

I like where you're going with this, Howie. I've always been a fan of Mannlicher stocks, and of forend schnabels.
