So there I was, sitting in my truck on the passenger side with the door open listening to the radio (can't do it on the driver's side because of that stupid "hey dummy you left your key in the ignition" BING-BING-BING....) minding my own business with a loaded airgun on my lap when I noticed another chipmunk about ten feet away in front of the bushes. Slowly, 'click' on the red dot, 'snick' off the safety, and jumped about six inches off the seat as a brown-white blur zoomed in from my 2 o'clock. A hawk about the size of a fat crow had landed splat on my quarry. It had the chipmunk totally speared with its talons and in a split second ripped out its throat with its beak. A moment later the hawk's head swiveled in my direction having finally noticed the startled bug-eyed human (I was shaking like a French soldier). The hawk, with the chipmunk firmly clasped in one foot, hopped off on the other to behind a small pine tree where it proceeded to rip it to shreds and devour it.
Totally cool.

Score: Paul - 3, Hawk - 1

Cool story Paul,,, that must've been a sight to see !!  As dedicated hunters we spend our entire lives honing our skills to become the best hunters we can possibly be,,,, but in the end we can't even come close to the skill level that natures hunters are born with.

Yeah, the other advantage they have is no set hunting seasons..... they can hunt anything they want, anytime they want, anyplace they want.    Boy, if that doesn't sound like heaven I don't know what does :)

Hay Guys,

When the predators are successful it's called survival !  They MUST be good or die.

When we are good, it's called lunch. If not, we call PaPa Johns .

If we depended on our kills, I assure you we would be much better hunters, or dead !

Still I love to see predators in action, majesty in motion, it makes me think of heaven .

....ahang glider ....?

You know, most folks could wait an entire life time and never see something like that.
You're a very lucky person, thanks for sharing.
