POI differance at 50 yards
« on: November 09, 2009, 04:04:55 AM »
I tryed something new for me today. I usually shoot at 15 yards in my basement range with all my air guns and their favorite pellets. Today I decided to streach it out to 50 yards outside to see where the POI would be with each gun shooting 10 shot groups. Not too many surprises, MM B-26 in .22 shot 3 inches low, Crosman NPSS .22 shot 3 inches low, Discovery .177 shot 2 inches low and the groups opened up to about 2 inches left to right except the Discovery was about 1 inch. The surprise for me was when I got out the little Plain Jane Diana 34 .177. Up and down POI was the same at 50 yards as it is at 15 yards and it held about 1 inch group. I thought the Disco would do better than the Diana 34 but I guess not.  Score one for the Diana.  Aren't these air guns fun?

I'm still trying to figure out what happened - today I guess. ... Took a .22cal Savage & my .22 cal Crosman to the range - a bit warm here today. The Savage was doing find at 75 & 100 yards. - Then switched to the Crosman with the fairly new Leapers scope, - NEVER saw anything like it. It was off to the right almost 70 "clicks - about the with of a sheet of 8.5x11" paper. Never knew the scope would even do 70 clicks, - and still don't know why. The rifle/scope hasn't been dropped or anything. Give it another go tomorrow, - hope the scope hasn't developed a problem.

Distance sure determines the POI......If the shots are just up and down....perfect.  If they are left and right.....it means the pellets are still spinning and pulling either way.  Some of my airguns can get 5 to 7mm groups with some pellets at 10 meters.....but when I shoot 40 to 50 yards away, only one or two brands can hold a good group.  If I can get 1 to 1 1/2" group from a certain pellet with a certain gun......I'm overjoyed (Even better if that pellet happen to be cheap!!!!).
