help finding a stock maker?
« on: November 09, 2009, 10:05:04 AM »
I have found the style of stock that I want for my TF89 the only problem is I found it at Richards Microfit and the only do bolt action rifles and Ruger 10-22's, its called the Tac driver silhouette and its a laminated stock which is what I'm wanting any ways, I don't want the vents in the forearm but other than that its the exact style I want, and they are reasonably priced around 177 dollars over there for powderburners, I sent them a email asking if I could get the same stock without any inletting which I would think would be easy, but basically what I'm wanting to know is if you guys know of anyone who can make a stock similar that won't charge a fortune, or that will do the inletting if Richards Microfit will sell me the stock without inletting. I know I can buy a laminated blank but The last time I looked for a stock over here in the states the guy wanted almost 800 bucks, and it wasn't a high grade wood or anything crazy. I know a guy named Lucas Parsley that lives in Poland that is a very talented stock maker that is much more reasonably priced but the shipping cost as much as the stock almost which ruins his good prices.

I would ask Richard/thebookdoc. He looked for a little while for someone to make him a custom stock for his .22 TF89. The place he got to do it is in his signature.

I saw that one too when shopping around, Shawn...Good luck (really!) getting it done. I did some of my styling based on that. My stock maker is booked right now...he's unable to do mine for some weeks yet.

He shot me a good price on doing the work Doc but as you say he's a busy guy so it will be after the first of the year but that's ok, his stocks come 95% fitted only requiring minimal fitting don't they?

That was my opinion too Timmy, I think the slots are a little over kill, they take away from the beauty of the natural lines of the stock, but she is pretty

If you can get one like this for under 200 bucks it's a great deal , They must have a way of cutting and finishing that is really fast considering the cost of labor in today's market. let alone the mtls. WOW  howie

I got a offer of 150 +25 for shipping for a 95% finished stock(which I thought was a awesome price), so I'll have to finish the fitting, I'm going to get one of the stocks for my Savage MarkII in .17HMR bolt action off Richards Microfit since they are so reasonably priced there some colors are as low as 139. But I'm wanting my TF89 stock worse. My powderburners are getting very little use since I found airguns Lol

Shawn...are you getting one of these for the TF89?! If so, PLEASE let me know how it works out. I have a Walther Force 1000 that I want to customize (and turn into a .22) and I'd rather do this than get another fully custom stock!

Thanks.

Well back to the old drawing board! The guy that's making bookdocs stock misunderstood me and can't make the stock without a pattern? I thought he could look at the picture and make one, I have a spare TF89 stock for all the measuements to tranfer over to the new stock and it doesn't have to be exactly the same as the one from Richards Microfit just that style and in laminate, I'd even pay more just not 800 like the one guy said for a custom stock- Howie1A if you want a try- we can talk price I'd rather have someone from GTA do it anyways, I tried Timmy but he's just not doing any springers just yet because he needs more tools which I totally understand- don't we all Lol
