H1N1 Bug...got it yet ?
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:02:58 AM »
Just wondering how you folks south of the border are faring with this H1N1 Bug.....?

I've just gone 10 days with it.....don't ever want to see it again !  NASTY !
Everybody seems to be getting it up here.....hitting everyone differently, some aches/pain, some flu like conditions, others cold like.....

Hit me in the voice box, now I sound like an ole bear with a mouthfull of gravel....growl !

..and I more or less got off lucky. It was more like an extended head cold for me, but with that stupid after period of respiratory stuff that the flu has even after the virus is all gone. Kept me from doing anything athletic for awhile even after I felt well because whenever I ran I'd start coughing. Grrrrrrrr...

And no, Tony, once you've had it you don't get it again, at least not the same flu season. Unfortunately, having H1N1 won't confer immunity against the seasonal flu or vice versa; the strains aren't closely enough related. So get shots for both if you can.

However, if you get the seasonal flu one year you're not immune to it the next season, because the virus mutates too quickly and changes too much in between seasons for your immune system to recognize it again. I'm not sure if it works the same way (getting it one season protects you for the rest of the season but not the next one) for H1N1, but I'd imagine that's the case.

Yea, though I walk through the garden in the shadows of pests,
I will fear no squirrel: For thou art with me;
thy scope and thy trigger, they comfort me.

Yeah....kinda what we are hearing up here in Canada too.....
95% get off with just minor discomfort, 5% have complications

Problem up here has been a shortage of vacine and late clinics......most of us will get it before we can get the vacination....

Also scary is that they expect someday a Pandemic of the dreaded H5 or H7 flu variety......50% of those who get it...DIE ! (internet info)
So there is something worse than H1N1 .......

There's ALOT of it going around here in central NY.

The Girl Friend and I both had it, she worse so (she's a smoker).

Just about the time one batch of symtoms ended others would start up.  Lasted three weeks before we stopped feeling like we'd been hit by a truck.  They are not testing for it here so can't confirm other than I looked it up and over the course of those three weeks we had every one of the H1N1 symtoms listed on the CDC's website.

Nasty is right !!!
