..and I more or less got off lucky. It was more like an extended head cold for me, but with that stupid after period of respiratory stuff that the flu has even after the virus is all gone. Kept me from doing anything athletic for awhile even after I felt well because whenever I ran I'd start coughing. Grrrrrrrr...
And no, Tony, once you've had it you don't get it again, at least not the same flu season. Unfortunately, having H1N1 won't confer immunity against the seasonal flu or vice versa; the strains aren't closely enough related. So get shots for both if you can.
However, if you get the seasonal flu one year you're not immune to it the next season, because the virus mutates too quickly and changes too much in between seasons for your immune system to recognize it again. I'm not sure if it works the same way (getting it one season protects you for the rest of the season but not the next one) for H1N1, but I'd imagine that's the case.
