What Kennedy said . . . !
« on: November 12, 2009, 11:48:19 AM »
I normally don't say a whole lot about politics since I'm of a very conservative sort and likely to get too riled up.  My politics and faith (notice I didn't say my religion) are held rather close to my vest.  I don't make it a point of foisting my beliefs on others but I also don't condone anyone invading my space either!  I received an email today that sparked some interest and research and lo and behold, what did I find but a speech given by John F. Kennedy in 1961.

What really struck me was the call to arms he made and which rings eerily ironic in light of todays "pc" culture.  You can find the full text of Kennedy's Roosevelt Day Commemoration Message at http://www.jfklibrary.org/Historical+Resources/Archives/Reference+Desk/Roosevelt+Day+Commemoration+Message.htm but the most important part for me follows:

In my own native state of Massachusetts, the battle for American freedom was begun by the thousands of farmers and tradesmen who made up the Minute Men -- citizens who were ready to defend their liberty at a moment's notice. Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. The cause of liberty, the cause of American, cannot succeed with any lesser effort.

All I can say is a quiet, "WOW!"
Blessings, joe
