Aint So Purdy Spring Compressor.........:) But It works..:)
« on: March 19, 2007, 07:49:08 AM »
I have been going over to CDT's every time I need to work on one of my air guns... And I get tired of going to the doctor to get stitched up after CDT turns Fritz loose on me when I screw up... hehe

SO........:) I decided to make my own spring compressor and be done with it.. I am not  a wood worker by no means but give me a hammer and screw driver and I don't do so bad...:) Actually I just get by... lol

I took some pictures of the spring compressor below, after it was done, cause I did not know what the heck I was doing....:) After agrevating CDT by phone a couple hundred times, I finally come up with something kinda like a spring compressor.. hehe..

Set out this weekend scrounging for wood, and finally come up with some wood I found on the next door neighbors eves.... hehe and some of his decking pieces that I sawd off cause I did not see that he or his family were even walkin on that end of the deck. hehe      Also borrowed some of his deck screws.. Some were stripped so I just took the good ones from his deck.. lol

Finally had all the wood and screws I  needed and started to work on Sunday, and finished it up today..

Beautiful Job Gene,

A real Masterpiece !

I can't see how it works, but I don't know much about air rifle parts !

And how's poor Fritz doing, did he get his shots yet ?  HaHa,Ha

Real nice job Gene.

Thanks Jeff.. I wish I could take complete credit for the design but I had been going over to CDT's alot and have worked with his spring compressor which is much more universal and made from some very nice hardwood..:) He uses his every day and does who knows how many tunes a month but his is a very nice piece of engineering if I may say so... So mine is just for occasional tear downs and lubes and not meant for production work... hehe

But the spring compressor works kinda like the Tuna's compressor, just alot rougher around da edges.. hehe

As long as it works for me I am happy.. Just another project done..:) Will get to test it's strength out when I get my B3...:) I understand those springs are tough..:)

WOW,SUPER,FANTASTIC ..... That is a really nice spring compresser Gene, I want one too. The way that Gene was talking about it to me, he made it sound like it was just a peice of 2x4 with a couple vice grip's holding the gun down hehe. That my friend is some fine work, still want one.:) Ed

Funny you noticed it... hehe... I am gonna make a new block and use two steel pins that go all the way through it..:) I wanted to finish it up and dowels were all I had.. lol  Ya and I found those wire pigtails in the bottom of a junk box and drilled to fit.. lol..

Thanks

Ya Mike it works great.. I have been very fortunate and CDT has been real good in letting me come over to his shop. The basic spring compressor is based after CDT's compressor. But not nearly as well engineered with polish and fit.. :) He has developed his through many years of tuning.. His is completly adjustable from one end to the other and will accept most all springer actions. Mine on the other hand is a simple version of his and probably not nearly as universal as his..

But is works for me and that is all I need at the moment..:)

You guys amaze me. From Paul's rifle rest to Gene and Jeff's spring compressor, and all in between.  What a talented bunch of people we have here at GTA. I'm so glad to be a part of it.

Yep...ain't this a great place to be. We might not be great engineers but we're able to wade through it and make it work...lol... It just takes a little longer some times.
