I gave up on meteor showers a few years ago.
Long story, but here goes.
My two boys, one a stepson and the other mine, both around 14 at the time, were all into video games and such so I thought I would enlighten them on REAL stuff by suggesting I wake them up for the big meteor shower. "It will be fun!" I said. They reluctantly agreed that it would and said OK.
Right on que at the peak time, I woke them up and we all grabbed a pillow to go lay out by the pool deck to gaze into the sky. It was a little chilly so we even brought a blanket and settled in for the big show. According to the news it was going to be the biggest and baddest shower ever so I was stoked that they would get to see REAL stuff.
After about 30 minutes and plenty of beotching about "Where are all the meteors??", one finally came zooming across the sky. Of course one saw it and the other didn't so a big argument started. Then finally another came zooming across the sky and the argument kind of settled down. The Mrs came out with soft drinks for us and then went straight back to bed, apparently she had either been there done that or knew what was coming next.
After another hour and only three streaks across the sky, my boy squeezed one off. That's when the meteors became old news and a new game began.........
