Hey Timbo, or anyone else who might know

I figured this would get to you faster the an email or PM. I want to get a Morgan butt plate for my Hunter 220, but how would I go about putting it on without having to refinish the stock? I doubt that I can do a better job refinishing it then Gamo did, though that's not saying much. If you have the time, a step by step guide to attaching a plate would be great.

BTW, would you recomend the Plastic or aluminum version? The price difference isn't a big deal for me.

When I put butt pads on I need to protect the finish on the stock I first cover the stock with the blue painters tape usually  2 coats at the place where the stock and new plate touch this way you can cut down the butt plate to make it fit. sometimes the plate is not as thick as the rifle if you run into this you need to make a small bevel on the wood as small as possible and just take some black marker to color the edge of the wood stock comes where it fits  to the butt plate. then  mount the plate. One other thing if you take the butt plate and cover the side that goes against the stock with the painters tape you can mark it with a ball point pen and use a sander to shape it. ( I use a disk sander 8 inch disk with a table for the plate to rest on ) PS also you might need to make the stock shorter if the plate makes the trigger to butt plate to lone. using a table saw set the butt of the rifle with the butt plate off and  set the wood of the stock against the saw blade  now set the cross feed tool  to the angle of the stock and you can use toe cross feed tool to bush the stock through the saw at the same angle as the factory cut is made. Randy,,,, in order to get a perfect fit You will end up having to refinish your stock. If you are willing to accept a less than perfectly flush fit,,Like on MANY guns,,, you can take the time to custom fit the Morgan pad to your gun. In that case I would recomend the black plastic one. Much more forgiving as far as asthetics goes. The aluminum one really needs IMO to be custom ground & polished. Just my 2 cents,,,,, Tim.
