My B3 project
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:39:05 AM »
Hi folks.  I bought 4 of these a couple years ago to get free shipping from Cummins.  Pictured is my baby, tuned and chopped by me.

I cut about 6.5 inches off the barrel, cut the cocking arm to match, and recrowned the muzzle; installed a new spring from a QF-2 kit, and new sear; cleaned and deburred the internals and lubed the spring with Maccarri's heavy tar; cleaned up the leather piston seal, scored it and then roughed it with sandpaper, soaked in oil then squeezed "dry"; installed a new breech seal (QF-2 kit, again); and slapped on a cheap muzzle brake that I got from Pyramyd Air.  I'm debating whether I want to bedliner the stock...

Before (or: "out of the box") - 4 inch groups (5 shots) at 20 meters with Gamo Match pellets, horrible dieselling, loud "grawnky" noises when cocking.
Now ("after messing with it, despite not knowing what I was doing") - 1/2 inch group (5 shots, Gamo Match) at 20 meters, nice and quiet.

Thanks to everyone who posted ideas and tips!  :)
-Joel

Joel,

Nice job.  B3s are great practice guns to work on.  Do you have any pics?

Can I install a Crosman Quest spring in the B3 underlever for increased power?  Not saying I would. Just like to know if I could.

How's the recoil and pellet/hold sensitivity of a B3 with the Crosman spring installed? I'd kinda like to do it. Just not if it's going to adversely affect the shooting characteristics of it.

There was a noticeable recoil and pellet/ hold sensitivity. The power was nice but after some testing with pellet's etc. I pulled the spring and reinstalled the stock one. Ed

I have 3 more B3's sitting in the closet, unloved for now.   Maybe I'll bedliner the stock off of one of those, then I won't lose the stock my girl is wearing now...

Nice pics, triry :)
