New Discovery First Impressions
« on: November 24, 2009, 11:02:50 AM »
Hey guys i just shot my new Discovery for the first time. I actually got it about 3 weeks ago but never opened it until the other day just in case i wanted to return it. I was debating whether to buy it when at the sporting goods store because i saw a really nice Marlin 336 that was the same price as the Disco. The Marlin looked like a high quality firearm versus the air gun feel of the Disco but to be fair the 336 is actually $ 400 but on sale. But considering that the price of the Benny Pump is about $ 200 alone the disco is a bargain actually.  The Marlin would have been my first firearm though if i had gotten it. But on to my first impressions.... Pumped it up to 1.5  last night and finished off today. It was no where near as loud as i thought it would be. Nowhere close to the dieseling rws 34 that i just posted about.  To me it was just a pop and crack... maybe the crack is the sound barrier breaking i hope :) But i do have a tight row of evergreens in my back yard so i dont know if that deadend the sound. Alot of people say its loud but to me its not bad. Some complain of the trigger. For me its actually better than a friends stock 10/22 trigger, about half of the weight and its pretty crisp. It feels like a sporting trigger to me which is what the Disco is i guess. Its better than i thought it would be from what i read out there. The hand pumping of the gun : Ive always been fascinated with free/ cheap energy for anything. Of course nothing is truly free but the pumping wasnt that bad. You could look at it as excersise and i dont think anyone has died directly from excercise, its usually the contrary. I like the fact that i dont have to drive and pay to have a tank pumped on top of the big up front costs.  Although some have said that the difference between 2000 psi and 3000 psi of some other guns are like night and day. Most other pcp s run at 3000 and if i ever decide to get another pcp i hope that the pumping difference would not be so bad for me as like what i heard about noise level and trigger of the Disco and what i actually realized. I think my routine will to be filling it up when i finish so when i go to shoot the next time it would seem like theres no work in pumping involved and as a plus i hear that keeping them pressurized is actually a benefit and i believe that to be the case. By the way i was shooting it today just for function testing  of new product and wasnt looking at accuracy although i shot a couple of daisys in half so i hope thats a good sign of the things to come.

Congratulations on your new disco.  I have one in .177 and love it.  Nice little hunting package.  Nice and light, plenty of power for small game and very easy to pump up like you said....   Looking forward to your future posts on the gun....

I came back to airguns after 40 years of mostly shooting powder burners. I think you will  get---- way---  more 'trigger time' in with your Disco than a 336 Marlin. Ammo, evn if you reload, is really pricey these days. My 177 disco gives the same accuarcy at 20 yards as a decent  22 rimfire. 50 yards on a windy day is more challenging. The Disco's lack of recoil and muzzle blast  will allow you to develope good shooting form -you can see the pelllet fly to the target when using a scope !!!  Enjoy your Disco and I am sure a good deal will come your way on a Marlin in the future. After deer season I have bought used ones very reasonable.
