Is there an updated B-3-4?
« on: December 02, 2009, 10:10:09 AM »
As I posted earlier, I picked up a used but fairly new B-3 in .22. The owner advertised it at 875 fps (yeah, on the moon) and at $70. I've seen where these go for around $25 (what I gave him) but also have seen them still advertised for $69, plus at a higher fps tham what's in the forums. Mine is plain stocked, ridged wooden butt and simple finger groove. The cocking effort does seem to be a bit high, maybe twenty-five/thirty pounds. Don't know if that's due to an inefficient lever system or they are putting a heavier spring in them. Anyone tried a new one lately?

I haven't seen or heard of any new updates on the "B" class shooter's bro and I try to keep on top of the B's, have a soft spot for em hehe. I would think that it's the same mainspring that's in both cal's but you never know what someone might have stuffed into her at the factory just for fun lol. Ed

Wasn't SouthSummit selling a "new version" B-3  ?????   I think they said it had a more refined stock and improved "upgrades".  I remember looking at them a while back and being tempted... Like Ed I also have a soft spot in my heart for the mighty B-3 :)

Here's the link to southsummit......

http://www.southsummit.com/industry-brand-b3-3-underlever-cocking-air-rifle-177.html

The picture shows some changes to the frame.  They also have it in .22 but it didn't have a picture of the rifle so I copied the .177 ad....

Looks mostly cosmetic...

I like that they have adopted the integrated cocking-lever catch, though.
If the sights are better than the older versions, that would be a huge plus.
Looks (superficially) like the same terrible trigger :)

I've done a lot of B3 work (the older versions), and with a little love they turn into really nice, mid-power shooters.  A couple of them have been real tack drivers ( out to 30 meters or so ).

Of course, I spent about $20 apiece for them :)
$50 is quite a jump for the same powerplant, but it's still a pretty good price for a rifle, especially one that is so easy to work on.

Did you say they had the new version in .22?
Hmmmm....

The $69 gun I saw was like mine - plain stock, long finger groove and wooden, serrated butt. I'm going to compare penetration to the .33 CFX I just picked up from Gene. Sometimes a gun feels like it's shooting "hard" but in reality it is just misperception.

(?) Do you think it's the spring falling?

just that my Quest is going down in power after 20 shots or so?

& how long do springs last?  :o
My Quest is 5mo's old?

I don't think the spring has failed. In fact, it seems to be doing pretty well.
