Katana arrived today, going back tomorrow
« on: December 02, 2009, 12:40:00 PM »
Upon inspection I discovered some serious QC issues.
1) Ding on the stocks right side upper forearm.  (not a shipping issue)
2) Blemish on the left side of the cheek piece.  (not a shipping issue)
3) Seriously poor milling on stock toward the muzzle end.  On one side the wood along side the barrel looks about 3/16 in. thick.  On the other side the wood along the barrel looks about 7/16 in thick.
It had to be a Monday morning inspection job to let this stock pass.  I'll be asking for a replacement.  Also requesting Pyramid Air inspect the next one for these issues, before shipping.  I have every confidence  Crosman and Pyramid Air will make it right.

The replacement Katana arrived last night.  Sadly, this one is going back as well.  The area of the stock that is notched out for the bolt handle is way off center.  When you close the bolt it hits the side of the stock and the bolt cannot travel all the way to the down (locked) position.  This is an obvious issue that should have been caught by quality control at Crosman.  The Airgun Tech Supervisor review at Pyramid Air missed it too.

Finally got a keeper.  This Katana arrived in great shape without any obvious QC issues.  I promptly check all the screws and cleaned the barrel with Goo Gone.  It took about 10-12 patches to get the barrel clean.  Then I mounted a 4-12 Bushnell Banner on her.  Tried to stay with a light weight scope that has  reasonable clarity.
The weather is rather balmy here in Wisconsin today, a reasonable 25 degrees with no wind.  That made the sighting in bearable.  I aired it up to the max fill line and shot it down to the lower line.  That's about the same time the fingers got too cold to load her anymore.  Didn't mess with the Chrony, there will be better days for that.
I'm most impressed with the shoulder ability of this air gun.  Just seems to come up nice and fits my 6 ft frame well.  I like my air guns light.  This combo fits that bill to a T.  It should be a nice hunting setup. Accuracy appears very good.  We'll see what it does when I can stretch it out more.
All in all I'm glad I took advantage of the Black Friday sale at Pyramyd Air and got mine for $331.55.  Pyramyd Air has lowered the price on the Katana.  I'm thinking they will come down some more since the Marauder is now available for less too.
