Guide shimming
« on: March 24, 2007, 01:00:13 PM »
Seen a lot on other Forums about using shrink tubing to tighten stock spring guides. Is this just a short time crutch, or does it really work?

Interesting this subject has come up..:) It is something CDT and myself have discussed at the greasy spoon.. hehe.. He mentioned one day that some guys use the shrink wrap for there guides.. And apparently it works...hehe..

Without being a snob, I think the idea is a good one because it was me that had brought the subject up with CDT. I am not against or for the shrink tape. But the way I look at it is that it is a bandage on a poor design that works well.  I personally would not want to do it unless I was just fiddling around with like a B3.. hehe.. My thought was to use it on the B3 instead of having a custom guide made for it.. But a B3 is a $20.00 dollar air rifle. For the rest of my fleet, I have had Turbo Tunes done on all but two of my air rifles so far and am very happy with the custom guides that CDT custom makes for each one of them..

Now it is time for me to tinker around with the B3's if they ever get here.. hehe and may even try a new rubber main spring.... LOL

I've heard that those rubber mainsprings are extremely quiet    :)

Was hoping it would be an inexpensive way to pep-up a lube tune and not a bunch of baloney.
Course, with some of the baloney that floats around here sometimes, who needs more? HeHe. LOL.

Good advice, friendship and comedy relief, what a great place!

Do you do the tophat, too, or just the rear guide?

On a B3 it might be wise to do the whole gun, from crown to buttstock:)
